I took the camera to the beach to try to find rare hooded Plovers... still looking for those. Found a Red-capped plover instead.
Where have you been searching Gerty? More common on the southern beaches from Vic to WA, usually the quieter areas.
Spotted them east of Port Fairy on Killarney Beach and West on the coast near Yambuck Earlier this year.

They used to be common locally too Glenda, but their numbers have dropped seriously. I joined a volunteer group to monitor them during their breeding season, but its difficult, the silly birds nest on the sandy beaches out in the open, and everybody likes to take their dogs on the beach off-lead.
