Oh dear we've just received the insurance renewal for our motorhome for the next 12 months and I can't believe it. We are supposed to be living the dream, not drowning in the mire
Would appreciate your views, tips and otherwise about who you insure your motorhome with. We have been with the same broker for 21 years but maybe it's time to sever the ties.
Thanking you in advance.

Di, we just insured our new one with CIL....they specialise in this kind of insurance, and we got a pretty good deal....HEAPS cheaper than NRMA, and they appear to have a good reputation. I hope!

Have the Coaster insured with Ken Tame because of being able to arrange towing, if needed, through them.

What do you mean arrange towing ,DO you need extra cover to have a motor home towed if the need arises.

They don't miss ya it certainly isn't based n any valid risk assessment formula . It's like they pick a number X by 15 divide by 3 and add a surcharge and that's the figure you pay. I beelive that the CMA have an insurance scheme for MH not sure what the charges are .

Ken Tame is the insurer favoured by the CMCA.
In Victoria, the RACV Roadside Assist will not deal with heavier vehicles - I think 3 tonnes is their limit. At least, with having Ken Tame insurance, I know they will arrange a suitable tow, if needed. I also feel their rates are pretty reasonable and it is on agreed value basis.

CIL. Tow any length. Will arrange suitable tow/lift company. Ours $100,000 cover = $1100/year. Peace of mind. You get what you pay for.
(RACQ would only tow up to 20 foot.)

We are also with Ken Tame,I think you have to be a member of CMCA to insure with him. RACQ wont touch a Motorhome either. Our Motorhome Insurance has just been renewed $750 for $75000 plus $2000 basic Contents . Towing is included up to I think $1000. They go through Allianz now,but haven't heard about him being taken over. Hope this helps.

With CIL - on reading comparisons with the CMCA (Ken Tame-who now uses Allianz I believe) CIL are comparable in all aspects - monthly direct debit.

Jules - will CIL actually arrange for towing? We had need of a tow last year, I phoned Ken Tame and they arranged it.

For what it is worth .... IF this insurance is under what is know as a "binder" which I see in a previous post, which means your Broker is working for Allianz and not for you! So if push comes to shove, my understanding is that the broker will support the insurer and their decisions, rather than you. This tends to work against what we believe to be the role of an insurance Broker which is to work for you who is their client! The fact that you pay a fee to the broker is irrelevant when the insurance is part of a "binder" arrangement. May not have any bearing on your situation, but just keep this in mind for future reference and ask the question of your broker "will you support and fight for me in the event of a claim if it involves a dispute?"

I have just received my CIL Insurance notice and it has gone made. Quote "$580.00 for $14,000 only +$4,000 content. I paid nearly $35,000. For it 3 years ago. RACQ for road assistance is $300.00 py and they tow me no hassles even interstate.

I am with Ken Tame. When the renewal date came around earlier this year I checked CIL and they were more expensive even with CMCA membership added into the KT price. Both our daily drivers are insured with different insurers as every year I check out the best price (horses for horses) and I change as necessary. My experience is that Insurance companies will very their price year on year depending on a whole lot of variables, required market share, claims per postcode etc.I did have a claim last year and KT and they were very efficient at processing the claim. They also offer roadside assist for an additional fee, that CIL currently doesn't offer.
I have never met an insurance broker that works for me , don't they all work in their best interest?
Cheers,
