A friend of mine, soon after starting truck driving, did the same on Ipswich Road Annerley. Brisbanites may know it, the railway bridge just along from the PA hospital. He was very embarrassed when the nurse in ED said I saw that! His embarrassment was worse than the small bump on his head.

Ah! that explains it. When I read the "Durham" trestle bridge I thought it might be in England.... silly me.

Now THAT is amazing stuff. My rig is about 10' so no worries. I suspect a sign that says 11' 8" is not as an effective deterrent as a sign that says LOW CLEARANCE. By the time a driver does his math travelling at 60kph it's too late. Besides, most of the drivers probably don't know the height of the vehicle, especially if it's the company's and not theirs.

If you are going to Tasmania Be CAREFULL in PORT MELBOURNE AND SOUTH MELBOURNE,about two years ago an American fifth wheeler came out the other side of a South Melbourne railway bridge about 4 feet lower than what went in.Unfortunately it was nearly new .

1. I can never understand why the people that design and build bridges don't make them high enough in the first place.
2. Only the stupid would even attempt it and then keep going. At least come to a stop and check it it out first.

330 serious rail bridge hits in an eight year span in SEQld, where the State government regularly talks about 'defending' bridges -as though there is some invasion by angry trucks, buses and yep, motorhomes. This bridge over Allwoord Street in Brisbane is one of two sited close together and there is another 'beauty' in Corinda, Brisbane.

I was just amazed at how many kept going. Did they have ear plugs in their ears or were they too busy listening to music. I reckon a lot of our younger drivers would be oblivious to external noise when they drive with their music so loud in their cars. Maybe this is similar.

I like the story of the truckie who was jammed under a low bridge....copper walks up & says "Hmmm stuck are we?'
Quick as a flash the truckie says "nah, I was delivering this bridge but ran out of fuel!"
