Over in WA along the shore line and even further up on the sand around the ocean there is what the locals call a Sea Slug that gets washed up at certain times during the summer months, that is very dangerous to dogs even if they just lick it it can kill them.We were around the Geraldtone area when we heard about this from a camper next to us who had just lost her dog due to coming in contact with this slug while she was walking along the beach.I do not know much more than i have said here about this slug. Maybe if you are heading in that direction you might like to find out more via GOOGLE or ring a vet and find out more.

Hello Sheba, They are the wierdest looking THING i have ever seen , it looks like a calf liver growing up to 2ft (500mm ) in length. When in water it is a purple colour but when on the sand it goes a dark brown colour. the bio name for it is.... Aplysia gigantea /sowerby 1869.maybe you could try putting in the name and see what you come up with. Ihope this bit of info is of help to you .
Regards Herbie.

Thanks herbie. I thought at first it might just have been the one known as Beche De Mer, but it's obviously not.
