If you use Adsl with the computer at home generally the uploads are not counted towards your limit. With Wifi or 3g/4g the uploads are counted as well. Just something to consider.
If you do email, checking a forum and a bit of goodling, you don't generally use much bandwith, however if you download music, youtube and other stuff that uses more bandwith you may need more. Depends on an individuals type of usage.
I think using a phone as a hotspot is the way I want to go, I'm using Kogan 3g and not sure what the speed will be like. The 4g/3g through the network provider should be fine hopefully with good speed.

I have a iPhone 4S and use it as my modem for Internet and it works great for me. The 4s has the Telstra blue tick for better rural coverage.

We use a telstra mobile wifi prepaid device, and connect both ipads and laptops (can all be on at the same time).

We are heading off shortly up to Kununurra & Darwin and also wanting to take pics an upload as we go as I create photo books of where we have been. Does anyone know of any program where you don't have to be on internet to upload pics, and then be able to create coffee table book at end?
Cheers

Hi Heddles
I have a mac book pro and an iPad that I use for all my photos etc, it doesn't need Internet, I can use either a USB or cable or slip the memory card into the mac book. I load them onto the mac and then use iPhoto stream to send them to the iPad and my iphone when I'm connected to the Internet.
I'm sure windows will something similar

Uploading and downloading means transferring data to and from the internet, for which you need internet access. If you mean transferring pics to a computer harddrive, then you don,t need internet access, just a suitable cable to connect your camera to the computer or tablet etc.
