Thank god for auto correct... Well sometimes! Even though to can turn big into pig, and takes the **** out of ****tail.
i can't spell haemhorroids, always get the "I before e except after c" thing backwards, and never know when to choose brought or bought!
i'm no dunce, and have post grad uni under my belt, but there's no explaining.
Am I alone?
haemorrhoids, UK, [Au]
hemorrhoids, US
We often ger confused by the US spell checkers though.

I downloaded a game on my phone that is like "Who wants to be a millionaire ?" It displays words and asks you if they are spelt correctly or not. Because it uses the US dictionary, I will never win.....
Like Kenny the plumber said in his movie, "Someone should ring the Queen and tell her what these guys have done to her language"
Aside from spelling, why is a tomato a fruit, but we use it as a vegetable ????

I'm with you two. I find my iPad does silly things as well so even Mr Apple can't spell.
Who really cares anyway, I'm sure we know what others are trying to say.
As long as we all look, learn, listen and have a bit of fun on this here forum and out in the playground with all our play friends.

I am numerically dyslexic. Whenever I have to add up my time sheet at work it always seems to be lacking a few hours in the day???

Brought is the past tense of bring, both with an 'r' so it's easy. Bought is the past tense of buy, no 'r' there. I left school at 14. That's when my 'real' education began. I used to earn a living writing so it became necessary to spell correctly. Depends on what correctly means, though. I prefer American spelling in many instances because most spell checkers (like the one on these forums) is American English.

Trying to spell "diahorea" properly is enough to give it to you... its still not right, should it be "diarohea"?

Hate to be the one to throw the cat among the pigeons JC, however the general standard of spelling on this site is abysmal.
As far as being ahead of the youth of today, I don't think so, perhaps it's because they have access to and use a spell checker, for some strange reason it's not available here, maybe one of the reasons for so many misspelled words.
Ducks to avoid incoming fire.
what does abysmal mean?
up the top there is an icon with a tick & abc in it, compose your message then select the tick, well bugga me there is a spell checker
sorry I should have said the icon is there when you compose a message or answer a topic

I don't mind when people misspell and I don't mind being corrected myself, so feel free to go ahead folks. I confess to being a blind editor of my own work.
It is my sloppy grammar that gets me down at times. That is not helped by the poor grammar that is commonplace on the ABC and other media.

Well bugga me, I didn't know spell check was up there either! I've been using dictionary.com.
I get really annoyed with myself if I can't remember how to spell something. Mostly I can see that it's wrong, but can't think of the correct way.
Diarrhea is my worst one too. I just used the spell check and it said there was no mistake...I only had one 'r' originally. Maybe I'll just keep using dictionary.com.
Fortunately is another tricky one for me.

There is no spell check when using quick reply. Just as well I am fairly good at spelling. Have to agree some of the spelling on here is atrocious. (Ok, did I spell that right?)

The spell check seems to work automatically when I type here on the forums. It underlines an incorrectly spelled word in red. If I right click it, the correct spelling is shown. Click that and the word is instantly corrected. For example, corrcted is underlined in red (but will not be shown as underlined when this message is posted). Right click, and I get a series of words to choose from, including the one I want. Tweezy!
