My wife and I are going to purchase a new single axle van with an ATM of 2500kg and have the option to upgade the suspension to the Cruisemaster Independent Coil & Shock setup.
Does anyone have this system and what has been your experience with it.
Also, any advice on independent suspension systems would be appreciated.

Excellent choice. It's one of the better suspension systems available. However where do you intend to take the van, and what are you towing it with? For many it seem to be somewhat of an overkill and certainly a massive weight to be carried on a single axle. Ozjohn.

G'day Ozjohn,
The van is an offroad model. It is a NOVA TERRA SPORTZ 16679-9 TS. It is 16'6" and we require it in a Pop-Top as we have storage issues (height restrictions) at home. We intend to go wherever we feel like it at the time and will be towing it with a Toyota Prado 150 series SX, 3 litre turbo diesel auto 3 door that has a towing capacity of 3000kgs. We have the option to upgrade to the Cruisemaster system for an additional $650. Sounded like a good option.

For rough work the Cruisemaster will match just about anything and at only $650 extra, it's a no brainer. Go for it. Ozjohn.

G'day JC,
Perhaps a more correct statement by me should have been that the suspension upgrade will cope with a ATM of 2500kg. The van itself will have a ATM of approx 2300kg, that is if my understanding of the term ATM is that it is the total laden weight of the Van plus the towball weight.
Do you think that is a bit heavy for a single axle?
We would have preferred a dual axle but the 16'6" Nova Terra Sportz only come in single axle. The dual axle models are 18' or longer and would be too long for my storage area at home.

For serious bush work, a HD single axle is better than a dual axle, in my view because there is no weight transfer on and off the tow hitch as the van goes over large undulations. Shockers are essential, irrespective of what type of suspension it is, but especially for coils because they offer no natural damping. I would prefer long leaves and shockers, personally.
Cheers, Peter

The ATM is not the laden weight of the van including the ball weight, but the maximum legal weight of the van including the ball weight. The laden weight will in most cases be different from the ATM. Cheers, OJ

The suspension may be rated at 2500kg but remember the tyres are the weekest link in the chain. Its a hell of a weight on a single, would not like to be in a blown tyre situation. Just my personal opinion.
