Does anyone out there like smoothies? I have two a day for diet reasons. My dentist suggested trying coconut milk for variety (smoothies can get a bit boring), then she also suggested hazelnut spread as a flavoring. After a bit of experimentation, I came up with this concoction:
3 scoops of vanilla flavored or plain Sustagen
1/2 can homebrand coconut cream ($1 a can from Woolies)
1 raw egg
Nip of Bickfords vanilla/malt flavored syrup
2 heaped teaspoons homebrand hazelnut choc spread
2 large scoops of vanilla ice cream
Blend and pour. Mmmmmm! Be warned... lotsa fat content. I'm trying desperately to put on weight. If you wanted a thinner smoothie, you could use coconut milk instead of cream, or substitute yoghurt for the ice cream, or just add a little milk to the original recipe.

I make smoothies from fruit juice sometimes instead of milk, and I use ice cubes instead of icecream . 1 banana, 200ml milk, 4 to 6 icecubes and blitz, you can add what ever you like to it .

Im thinking a couple of ounces of light rum, a dash of triple sec, a dash of lime juice, and blend it roughly with a banana and a couple of ice cubes and some sugar to taste.

Lurve your way of thinking, Troopy. :) But how's about this healthy . . . .
Banana Smoothie:
1 cup skim milk 1 tab light, smooth peanut butter 1 teasp honey 1/4 cup traditional rolled oats 1/2 frozen sliced banana, and
1/2 teasp cinnamon, if liked. (Cinnamon lowers LDL cholesterol - the bad one - and it's good for type 2 diabetics.
Hit all with a stick mixer until blended nicely, and wow! So good!
The frozen banana makes the smoothie go thick. I buy 4 or 6 bananas at a time, peel and cut them in half, then individually wrap sliced-up halves in Gladwrap, and place in a plastic freezer bag to store. They freeze well like that, and you always have them on hand. ENJOY!

Romy clever way with the bananas. I'd have to change the ingredients...allergic to Honey, and I hate peanut anything and bananas.
So I'd substitute Golden Syrup or Maple Syrup for the honey. Replace the bananas with other fruit, like cherries. Not sure if you could omit the peanut butter or not, though I guess you can....now that sounds nice

Oh, Romy what are you doing to me? Just tried your rolled oats smoothie. Yummy! Love the oaty taste. I used full cream milk though, and a couple of dollops of ice cream - I need fattening up! I also added the cinnamon - just a pinch. Next time, I might use coconut milk for a change. Thanks for the recipe. Mmmm. I'm drinking it as I type this. Oh... and thanks for your message on my guestbook. :)
