I've been getting a few emails telling me we will automatically be changed over to Outlook or we can do it ourselves before.
Then got the LifeChoices newsletter with a story about it in there. Clicked on as they said they would explain it all and what you had to do.
Well, I didn't have to do anything, after reading the story I went back to Hotmail to be told an upgrade had been done, to either close down and reopen or click on refresh. I clicked on refresh and Lo and Behold I am now in Outlook.
It seems you don't need to change your hotmail address, but you can, seems to work ok how it is.
Why do they have to be always changing things. I can't keep up.

They change things because they've realised they can actually make more money out of you this way. I was using Windows Live email. Through some wonder of Bigpond I lost access to it and was referred to Outlook. I only have 1 gig on my account. With Outlook, every time you open an attachment it downloads, and uses up valuable internet space. It comes via the internet while Live of other email addresses came direct via the internet. So if I use my 1 gig, my service slows down, which is frustrating, and they're hoping I'll upgrade my account and pay more to them for it. It's an absolute croc and no one explains this to you at the time. Nothing is free. Nothing! Be careful what plan you have and what the price and conditions are. This may affect you more than you think. It's not just a clean relocation of email addresses. Also be careful it you want to update or change your plan mid-plan. There's usually a cost. They're a bunch of crooks, all of them.

Once set up for your account you can see ALL emails which have come in for you then you can decide if you want to download them or not before they use your bandwidth.
You can see if there is an attachment in the email and how big it is and the name of it. If you've seen it before or otherwise don't want it you just delete it.

Be very careful when they change your hotmail or Live over to Outlook. They have a new feature which groups your emails by conversation. Well, it doesn't know what its doing. My inbox was saying I had two unopened emails. Couldn't find them any where. Went back two pages and found them there grouped in with a totally unrelated set of emails. I have been into options and turned that option off. They then came back to the top of the page.

They are all going to be changed automatically NeilnRuth. I think mine changed over early because I clicked on a link to see what it was all about. I do have another hotmail account which I checked today, don't use it much, it is still in the hotmail format. By now you should have got some emails telling you whats going to happen. DON'T OPEN THEM! lol

I changed min over a couple of days ago . If you don't , they are going to do it automatically .
I don't mind the new format , but can't see that it is any more efficient than it was .

It is less efficient as far as I'm concerned. When you open an email you don't get the full page anymore, just an area in the middle and if you have a photo on it you have to scroll up and down and sideways just to see it all. So annoying.

I just checked mine and found it was still an option to change to Outlook. I just got an email which was a scam - I don't usually get them through hotmail - about earning $$$$$$/month just posting links on the internet. As if! Came via my cousin's email address in England - about an Aussie girl. Snopes listed it as a scam.

Get a gmail account! Much more free storage than hotmail!

I'll go along with Delta18, I've been using Mailwasher since the first day it came out, one thing to remember if you download the free version you can only use one email address, unlimited emails addresses on the Pro ver, well worth paying for the full Pro version.
My hotmail addy has not changed yet, if it does and I don't like it I will change over to use my Gmail account.

Hylda has a hotmail account and 2 gmail accounts so I downloaded the free mail program called "Thunderbird" for her (It's made by Mozilla which also makes it's sister program "Firefox") and set it up so as soon as the computer gets turned on and connects with the internet it checks the email sites and downloads all the new emails from both sites so we can read them at our leasure offline if we wish.
I have a Mac computer so I do the same but with it's inbuilt program called "Mail".
Cheers

No Clare, mine doesn't have that. It has the up arrow and the down arrow, then it has a cross. I clicked on that and it takes me back to the inbox with all emails. I searched and can't find any arrow facing right.

Thanks Clare, mine is still not opening. Might have to go into options or help and see what can be ticked on or off.
Now I find when I want to forward something using cc or bcc it only shows me about 4 or 5 of my contacts. I have tried everywhere to bring the whole list up. The only way is to put in a few letters and hope the right one comes up. Very annoying.

If you click on the little arrow next to the word "Outlook" top left, that will open other options, one of them is people. these should be your contacts.

When you want to find your contacts names and can only see the last 3-4 you have used, Click on the word "To" which is at the top of your contact list this should bring up all your email addresses from A - Z.

Hi Barina, you may need to go into your settings in outlook and check that they are correct.
You will see a little round cog symbol on the top right side of the page next to your name that is where your setting options are.
Click on it once then click on "more mail settings" check all the settings are to your liking. Good luck
