Off to NZ in 3 weeks for my nephews wedding. Had originally declined the invite as really couldn't afford to go. My sister from Geelong rang last night. Her hubby can't go now and would I go in his place. She begged, said if I didn't go with her she wouldn't go on her own. Okay after she twisted my arm.
All paid for including a flight down to Melb to go on the same flight as her,. Only have to pay for my passport to be renewed, and pack a bag.
You never know whats coming up to change plans, do you

No....and aren't we glad most of the time? My Dad's fall and getting a stick in his eye changed my plans recently. I'm glad I didn't know about it before hand. When it happened, I just re-organised everything. Have fun HW. Would love to go to NZ.

You never used to need a Passport to go to NZ when I went in the mid-60's. Just needed a Tax Clearance. The law was changed some years ago.
Cheers,

Was a little later than the 60's when the law changed, I jumped on board a Russian liner when I was 16 and sailed to Auckland, didn't need a passport or parents permission...that would of been 1973......I paid extra $$$ to be on B deck as I didn't want to be below water, from memory it cost me about $65......and months of saving. How times have changed...

It was definitely 1968 Jillybeans. I travelled over in 1967 aged 18. I travelled back in 1968 and needed a passport. No passport needed for the 1st trip.

I wish it was, I wouldn't have to worry about the passport and I wouldn't have to change my money to N Z dollars. Although I will get about 1.25 for every dollar, so thats not so bad.

My KIWI ex and I went to NZ in 1976. No passport or any documentation required. Just the ticket both ways. We were there for 2 months over Christmas/New Year. I'd love to do it again. Maybe some day. Have fun HW. Lucky girl someone's misfortune is your good luck this time.

I am so sorry Jillybeans you are right. After reading Cruising Granny's post I went back over and realised it was my 2nd trip 1981. Travelled over 1980 Aug, No passport. Return Aug 1981, needed passport. Think I've got that right this time.

Don't think I will have any spare cash for duty free. Have sorted out my outfit to wear to the wedding, pleased with that.

HW, get your cash changed at a post office, much cheaper.
Have you renewed your passport yet?
Do you know how much it cost to do that?

Don't worry about taking cash... Just pop your EFTPOS card in the machine at Auckland airport and get your cash there! Cost $5(I think) so get as much as you will need for the trip... Much cheaper than commission bank charges! Have fun in godzone!

I maybe wrong but I think your bank will charge you a fee for the exchange rate if you do it that way, when you get your next statement.
Anybody else know about this method?
another point HW if your sister has already paid the airfare etc then make sure she lets the airline know of the change in passenger, thank you for the passport info
