Hi all, general rule is if the snake is able to climb trees it is largely harmless. On our rural block in far Nth. Qld. we regularly encounter snakes of all types. Recently Vannessa ( Cook/ Naviigator ) filmed a red bellied black eating a small eastern brown, fascinating. Best rule for those not familiar with wriggly sticks is leave them well alone.

Who on earth told you that, dingojim ? They've obviously never seen a King Brown climbing closed Louvres and a timber wall to get inside a building. I have. This was just west of Calen, about 40 years ago.
I don't suppose this person thinks that a Carpet Snake will attack you either. Wrong again. Sorry, but the above statement could get some-one killed.
Please do not believe that just because a snake climbs trees, it is harmless. Unless you really know for certain what you are dealing with, leave snakes alone.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Some interesting reading... about one third of the way down the page.
Twenty years ago,I had a confrontation with a yellow bellied black snake in Gladstone. He climbed a forty foot tree quicker than what I could run in a different direction
No. Many types of snakes are agile climbers, especially pythons and some of the ground-dwelling venomous snakes.
The above sentence is the answer to that question, on the page.
Thanks for that Troopy. I've saved that page. Some Good info. there.
Cheers,
Sheba.

I did say that those not familiar with wriggly sticks should leave them alone did I not. Carpet snakes aka our very popular pythons do NOT attack people. This is the misinformation which makes people uneccesarily afraid of snakes

Anyone watch Catalyst on the Road last night? They caught a large brownie on the Eyre highway and the bloke said it could kill you 18 times. I reckon once would be enough. I get bored with repetition. As he released it, he told everyone to stand perfectly still. They'll attack anything that moves. So everyone froze and the thing toddled off into the desert.

dingojim, I am not some-one who knows nothing about snakes !!! I am a country girl originally, and lived on Cape York for as number of years as well.
I speak from personal experience, not heresay, and I have seen this happen, on more than one occasion. The last time I saw it happen was up near Baffle Creek, and my ex was the person the Python was going for.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Sorry Dingojim , but you are wrong .
I've seen carpet snakes attack humans on 2 occasions . Once it was me in the firing line , and once
a professional snake catcher trying to remove a very angry young carpet from a friends lounge room .

OK and how long had the snake catcher been poking and prodding the python for ? Judging by some of the comments posted the majority would'nt know an adder from a whip snake and this lack of knowledge combined with fear induced hysteria is more dangerous than the snakes..

And so is the attitude of some people, that they know it all, and the personal experiences of others are not to be believed.

Are tree snakes the only snakes that can climb?

Anyone seen the Badass Texas Rabbit on Youtube? Here's one rattler who learned to climb a tree real quick!
