Sunday I was doing a welding job, picked up a small camping stool from the shed as it was the correct height for the job.
About half way through I attempted to move the stool for a better position. Then the shock, where the canvas had been sown had deteriated & colapsed in a split second. My thumb was jamed between the folding legs with me sitting on it. Not happy Jan.
Picked myself up with the stool still hanging on the thumb, freed myself & thought I just squashed the finger, upon a closer inspection it had torn the thumb from the nail to the second joint along the inner side, pealing all the skin & flesh away about the width of the finger & down to the tendants & nerves.
A trip to the hospital with a clean, exray & photos taken & sent to another bigger hospital 60kls away, they wished to do an inspection before it could be closed, due to the exposure of nerves & tendants. so had to head off over there.
Lucky there was no damage to these areas, so with a very good flush out, a bit of skin removed it was then put back together with ten stitches.
8.5 hrs later we got back home. Not quite what I had planed for the day & now it will be a few days before I get to finish the job, & I just hate delays.

Hmm just thinking ?? It might have been better if it was the WHOLE HAND ????? THEN. you would only of had to go to a SECONDHAND SHOP, to get another one
The pain and suffering I could feel it just reading your post and to have to travel 60 Klm to a second hospital, much more pain hope it gets better soon

Thanks to every one, doc's tomorrow to have it redressed & checked for infection as that was their main worry.
Think it will be good as there is no pain , movement is ok.
Local hospital was over run on the day ( not hard to work out why ) but excellent, the reason for sending me to another was for a specialist to check it before it closed, being so deep they thought it may have to be done in layers. All checked out ok.
The second hospital was excellent as well, had about 4/5 people check it before a dicission was made. I watched most of it , being flushed out & then put together.

Ha Ha !! I know what you mean, Jim. BUT really you can be lucky sometimes ??? in the hospital you choose ?? A mate of mine cut his leg real bad !! and the hospital he went to decided the easy way to fix it was Amputate It ??? But they made a mistake and cut of his good leg first >?? Then they still had to take off the injured leg as well !!. ------------- He thought that was a bit drastic, so he took them to Court ??? to sue for damages !
He lost the case ?? It was thrown out of court, because, -------------------------------------He did not have a Leg to stand on

He's right, I did try that but the welder would not create an arc on the finger, I must be low on IRON.

Yeh !! it was ? I agree, I'm not sure wether that one came from Wombat, or Dougwe,??

It is not so much fun. You have to pay the nurses compliments. I bet they looked after you a treat. I always take them a box of chocolates afterwards.
