On the road again Took a round about way via back roads from Geelong - Ocean Grove then to Meredith Park. Maybe 8 lots here. Nice spot beside the lake. Plenty of shaded picnic tables and fire pits although I am told the brigade was out here yesterday as someone used one - total ban. Thinking a day trip to Apollo Bay and along the ocean back to here looks like a good scheme.
Any one else in this area? PM me if you want to catch up

We had an overnighter there in October. Alas, it was terrible weather at the time..blowing a gale and raining. But I could see it'd be a nice spot in good weather.

Gday...
If you are going down to Apollo Bay and along the Great Ocean Road a good camp is Johanna Beach (Camps6 Site 681 VIC). Toilets and water at a tap near the toilets. A very good open area - and it is possible to find level sites.
I was there 12 months ago - after staying at Meredith Park
Here a couple of photos of Johanna Beach - first is Johanna Beach campground; second is the view of Johanna Beach itself.
Yep, another good spot. We stayed there for several days. Our camp was just near the red car in your first photo John. They were building new amenities blocks..probably finished now...I wonder if they charge now because of that. It was Melbourne Cup long weekend, so they had LOTS of porta loos set up and the grounds were chockers!

Hi Spida, Rob and I Spent a week there a couple of summers ago.Loved it but it was very windy. There's a great fish and chip shop in town opposite public toilet in park. Cooks up great battered NZ mussels. Greek blokes shop. I'm off to NZ in a couple of weeks, gonna get my full of seafood whIle I'm there.
Cheers

Unlike at Greens atm there is green grass = no dust, and lovely big old trees. Stong wind for a while last night but a beautiful morning. Met some great people last night as well. Will do Johanna Bay - was recommended by someone here also.

At the risk of being stoned for Grey Nomad heresy, if I had to provide a rating for Meredith Park (Lake Colac) and Greens Lake it would be 8/10 Meredith Park ... 3/10 Greens Lake

Yes Rocky - I tend to agree with you re Meredith Park, and Colac is so close.
Drove to Apollo Bay today and then to Johanna - I wont be camping there. Dont like the Red Road in - very narrow although sealed. and several people in cars who didnt make any attempt to move over when approaching me! I guess with a ute I am expected to get off the seal. BUT - the blue road out is a definite No No for me - 6km of unsealed very narrow windy road with some seriously nasty corrugations going up the hill.
So - for me maybe several more days here at Meredith.

Gday...
Yep .. the Blue Johanna Road is definitely a no-no with a van ... pretty tight in places even without the van on
I took my van in on the Red Johanna Road - I guess I was lucky. If I met any oncoming vehicles they must have given way - but my recollection is I had no difficulty with that road.
As you say though, a few extra days at Meredith Park will not be hard to take.
Cheers - John

Hey if my little rig can do the red road, it can't have been too bad. There were all types of vehicles and vans there in November. They must have come in either the red or blue. Just sayin'.
Valnrob, I reckon if my brother -in-law...who with my sister, travelled with me...had known about the NZ mussels, we would have stopped there too. They went to NZ earlier in the year and he's now obsessed with them!

I've had the tablets, but that's as close as I'll come to eating them.
