Not the way I would have like to, but we needed to drag the porta pottie out of the caravan today. Never been used and was given to us by the yard that sold us the van because the one in the van, when we bought it was full!
Our dunny died, the rear seal was cactus and every time we flushed it, it leaked. Mr plumber was called in and arrived today. To replace seal, pan had to come out. Problem was, when the pan came out, it fell to pieces. It was cracked.
Now, only I am allowed any pottie humour on my post and declared that was due to my wife's fat ought. I got told!
Dunny won't be fixed till Friday, mortar has to dry. So the porta pottie is being christened. I would have liked the christening somewhere else, like in the bush somewhere, where a proper christening could be celebrated.

But just think how lucky you are that you have it. In the bush it would have been a luxury because there's usually a bush nearby. Now it is classed as a necessity (unless you have a very bushy backyard)

Interesting that the plumber still used mortar. We have had 2 new toilets in last 12 months and they used silicone for the base. Glad you had the porta pottie.

We live in a back water country town that thinks it is a cultural treasure. Mortar on a concrete floor is normal. Silicone is what has filled the attachments of the pictures on the local garage owners walls! Pictures I can do.
Seriously, I really am apprehensive about emptying it in three days time, given what I have done. Followed all the instructions with the chemicals and have to empty it down the dunny when it is fixed.
I just wish I could go back to the good old days, dig a hole and bury it!

Not too sure about emptying it directly into your new dunny Boothie, having smelt the aftermath when people do that at caravan parks. Might be better to find a dump point.

No wonder it leaked, most seals are made of rubber!
Also, as it was very prickly that made HERSELF jump up & down and thats why it broke!

Yes, emptying the blasted things , especially when they are full or overflowing , gives your van agreat smell........The Rthetford brand seems to a good one, and i use cheapo napisan in some warm water the get rid of the smell.See you soon, Bill

I bought my porta potti 4 years ago and still haven't christened it. I've only just bought my truck and camper, and still haven't been anywhere yet hehe. But I'm working on it. Bill's right about nappisan (or the home brand equivalent). It's cheap and works like a charm (so I've read on various forums). Dissolve a tablespoon of powder in warm water and tip it into the waste tank. Also use it about once a month in the flush tank to prevent slime build-up. Aren't forums wonderful?
