we are planning our trip around aus, so how is kakadu for camping? Also the road between Halls gap and Derby it looks quite isolated, so I am presuming petrol is expensive and hard to get, would be grateful for any info

Welcome to the forum sandyr. We've only been to Kakadu by bus trip so I will have to let others give you advice. But what we saw we loved.

The road from Halls Gap to Derby is fine - main highway. Fuel is a bit dearer but every place has fuel. There may only be a roadhouse but they have everything usually. I tend to fill up often 'just in case'. Katherine is cheaper and Tom Price - a lovely CP there also. Stayed at Tarunda CP at Fitzroy Crossing (quite safe!) and did the Geike Gorge trip - amazing.

Thanks for that info spida, I have taken note, we are heading off tomorrow all going well, we have had a stream of unexpected things crop up, broken false teeth ,sickness, drs appointments, broken door( being due to somebody not securing the handbrake) thanks goodness my son works at a smash repair got it fixed for a carton of beer. fingers crossed tomorrow will be the day, we are heading towards Barraba we have rellies there then on to Glen Inness and then Lamington N.P then onward to cook town and then across to n.t and w.a , some where, sometime, somehow we will get there
