We left Rivers & Rocks and drove to St Helens and I have to say the trip between Bicheno and St Helens on the Tasman Highway has the most beautiful beach scenery. Not spectacular as some but almost every twist and turn brings the ocean into stunning view. Scamander is a fine example of a small seaside town sitting on a beautiful beach and the Scamander River Estuary.
Arriving in St Helens I was able to pick up some redirected mail and get petrol. I was told about hot showers at the wharf and went in expecting to enjoy the experience since it has been a while. Not to be, there I was with the $2 coin ready for action and as soon as it was inserted there was a powerful spray of cold water over my entire body. This caused some discomfort as you would imagine but worse was to follow, there was no way to control the spray and no hot water was forthcoming so I had a vigorous cold shower that cost me $2.
We took off for the Bay of Fires so called by the fungal infestation on the rocks giving them a red fiery appearance. We went to the North Cosy Corner camp grounds Camps6 #27. An excellent choice as the campers had told us yesterday. New toilets with the rubber floor pump to step on similar the Lagoons Beach. The white sandy beaches are just across the foreshore no more than 50 mtrs from where we are camped with the red rocks in evidence. There are plenty of spaces to choose from but now is the busy time with locals taking over many of the best sites for the seasonal holidays.
Again without internet so am posting from the IGA carpark at St Helens where I am going to attempt to block a tiny hole in a pipe taking water to the heater. As usual it is the weekend when problems struck and there are no mechanics working but I have bought some steel reinforced epoxy putty and expect to be off soon to meet Billeee at Derby. Found this out when checking the water and oil before setting off, water mostly gone but after refilling and driving to St Helens noticed a fine spray coming from the pipe. So her goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John
