Will be a bad year for fires this year as there is a lot of grass around and it will be hot. We had to take the steam engine off the rain for yesterdays run as we started three fires alongside the track on the morning run. We have a ute with fire equipment that follows on the tracks a few hundred meters behind the train but they could not contain the biggest one. Needed 13 appliances and two choppers and some poor farmer dam of water to put it out. Authorities will not allow us to do burn offs over the winter months. we are only allowed to whipper snip and have you ever tried to whipper snip 30+ kilometers. Same as we are not allowed to do repairs unless we use original timbers etc. We have a deck around a shed that the sleepers have seen better days and are collapsing but can only use the same timbers as was used when it was built over a 100 years ago, yet we are able to patch with steel sheets, Masonite, ply and anything else we can find which looks real crap and is still not real safe. We have people walking around every day sticky beeking at the carriages and buildings and they could fall though some of the deck.
