Santa, I do not have a Garmin (In Car GPS), If you do not get help from someone on this Forum I know there are Garmin Users/experts on: http://aussiemotorhomers.com/forum/
But if you are not already a member you need to be in the CMCA or Australian Caravan Club, or, or.........

Something else that may interest you is the POIs from Campa Australia Wide. For only $20 you can download them from here.

Just a quick point with garmin POI's.
If you down load files into your GPS and then name them you can add POI's as you go and then update the ones you want to without updating the lot.
Eg download your dump point file and then rename the file to DPoints or something and then download your camps and rename that camps and so forth till you have them all in. Also you have the option then to select a type of POI to look for.
I have the CAMPS and then a FORUM suggestions so I can check in the camps book and then it will show the forum icon if it has been suggested on one of the forums I visit.
Each POI file should have a icon to match eg exactly the same naming and then when a POI comes on the screen it will show the icon so you know a campsite is coming up etc.
I also have a audio message with the same naming so it speaks a message. eg "campsite ahead" "Aldi store ahead"

I'm following this thread with interest, I bought a vehicle Garmin Nuvi 1450 LMT today, free lifetime maps and traffic, voice instructions etc.
I haven't played with it yet, just registered product and for the free lifetime maps and traffic and have it on charge at the moment.
Does anyone know what the laws in WA say about windscreen mounting etc (I could google it but thought I was ask here first) and can it be used without mounting as a hand held?
Thanks

Thanks Jon,
I managed to get that ok, save to my pc.
Now what I want to know is there anyway you can load GPS coordinated onto your GPS (Garmin) for those shown in Camps 6?
I can only see where I can download a destination by name on mine, but not by GPS co-ords....Am I missing something?

Thanks Jon,
But then how do I transfer these to my GPS?
I am not offay with all this stuff so need plain and simple instructions that "Duh" can follow....
Edit: I just tried purchasing Camps GPS info, wouldn't recognise my email address, also seems you have to pay by Pay Pal, have emailed them to clarify situation and also whether you can pay by other methods (ie; Visa/Mastercard etc).
I read on the product order form that they explain how to load onto your GPS etc, so assume that if I manage to get the product all will be revealed!......
I was also browsing this US site for info and found it very confusing!

Hi again Vic ..
I rang them and provided my details over the phone .. they then confirmed my email address before sending me the details of where to down load the file and the details about my code to unlock the file ..
Providing my details over the phone is my preferred choice .. if I can do that .. that usually gives me a future contact if I need to use it too.
I did have to have a USB cable which fits into the Garmin through which the data transfers from the computer .. got my cable from Dick Smiths and I would suggest you take your Garmin in with you to make sure you get the correct one as there are a couple of sizes ..

I have the USB cable, it came with my Garmin, along with the 12V ciggy socket car charger cable.....
(I gave mine its first charge off my jump starter which had a ciggy socket on it)
I could have bought a 240V/12V cable but am ok with the 12V ciggy car charger cable.
As a matter of interest, does the USB cable when used on the PC also charge the Garmin?

Some you can download from the net and the others you have to create using your computer. Use a audio editing program with a mic attachment or I had one program you can type in a message and it made an audio file. Regards Brian

Thanks Jim, yes I just recharged mine while connected via usb to my pc, so that is a good option.
I had email reply contact from from Camps and my purchase has been cleared (now recognises my email address and also ok for Mastercard) and now have the download, GPS seems to find WA campsites but Camps (eg; Camps6 WA, Camps6NSW etc not shown on POI Custom list, so not sure whether the campsites (and caravan parks) were already on my GPS maps or the WA ones are showing from Camps6......still investigating, have queried CAW.....
Thanks Brian, may look at other downloads etc after I have sorted the basics out.
Of interest, I bought my Garmin Nuvi 1450 LMT (Life Time Maps & Traffic) at the end of 2012 for $119 from Dick Smith, went to buy another from Dick Smith today for my daughter, they have gone back up to $299 ($119 was a sale price), so will keep my eyes out for another sale there or elsewhere.

FYI, my Camps 6 download for Garmin would not download, turned out to be a corrupt file, was sent another file and GPS Oz (partners to Camps 6) rang me and walked me through the download (I knew how to do it, but was requested to wait for their call, if I had not and it failed I probably would not have been given another (cost $19.95) so waited for the call and now all downloaded on my Garmin.

Hi everyone, first post here - been lurking for a while though.
I have a Google site that you can download my POI's for free. https://sites.google.com/site/berniesautomobilia/why
Have the dump points, public toilets, rest areas etc that were all very accurate as of last March/April. I haven't done much since then.
These are much, much better than those you can download at other free sites, due to the fact that I have compiled them myself after lots of research and double-checking.
They are all Garmin files, but if you need another format please just ask, I can convert to most formats.
There is also a second (sub) page with lots more POI's, but these haven't been double checked for accuracy as yet.
Any feedback is most welcome,
Cheers,

Hi Peter, This link will give you access to the Qld download for various POI's for Garmin

I am sure the other State RTA's have the same.
