We were going into Freycinet National Park but decided to go past and secure a good site for Xmas and the New Year. The locals seem to set up caravans in good locations at free beaches and leave them unattended until their holidays arrive. As it happens there are plenty of sites available but better safe than sorry and we will return to Freycinet early next year.
Lagoons Beach is a beautiful location and as the name suggests there are lovely lagoons along the beach as well as a spectacular sandy beach stretching for miles. We are set up within 100mtrs of the toilet block in an area with good sunlight for our solar panels and as yet not fully camped out. So now that you have our location we would like anyone currently in Tassie to visit over the next 2 weeks. Camps6 #37. John

We did the Penguin tour at Bicheno on our first trip to Tassie...only seen them at the zoo before, sure seemed a different lifestyle for them.
Loved the story about the penguins trotting down to the water to go food shopping for the family and coming home exhausted, they had to rest as they made their way up the sand to their nests.
Glad I'm not a penguin...hehehe, sounded like really hard work, no grey nomad living for the little penguins.

Great spot here at Lagoons Beach - heaps of "locals" have already been in and parked their vans and marked their spots for the holiday break - some of them have been coming for 32 years!!!! Really well set up - it is a huge area, there is still a lot room.

Time for an update from Lagoons Beach.
We arrived last Tuesday and it is now Sunday morning so what has been happening other than the fun we have when Billeee, Jules & I get together.
Well lots of exciting things such as putting up the shower tent and using it. There is no water here so a quick shower was in order and the rest of my 20ltr container was emptied into the vans water storage tank. Using my inverter and not the generator to recharge up my camera battery and also using the Remington haircutting thingy to have a haircut. I am pleased to say that since I have been in Tassie whilst I have had no access to 240 volts neither have I had to use the generator.
We have been on many walks along the beach and through this huge campground, we have had more success mixing with other travellers than the locals who come here every year.
Billeee & I went to St Marys yesterday for a top up of supplies and water calling into the pub to buy some Xmas Cheer, I am concerned about saving for the coaster but non the less bought a bottle of Original Baileys whilst Billeee went for the Butterscotch Schnapps. Am pleased that we went in the Starship not so sure that the Hi Ace would have made it over The Elephant Pass. We saw the advert for Pancakes as mentioned earlier but didn't call in to sample their wares.
I am learning from the expert about sleeping in, Billeee is decidedly grumpy if he has to get up before 9AM whilst I can easily get up to photograph the sunrise at 5AM but today I opened one eye and saw the makings of a good sunrise closed it again and pulled the doona over my head and went back to sleep.
We have invited anyone who finds themselves on the east coast of Tassie to visit and we will be here until the New Year. We are having a very relaxing time and enjoying the moderate Tassie weather and generally enjoying ourselves. John

Hi John, just today I was checking out free camps. Lagoons Beach looks good. I am heading to Launceston as soon as I get off the boat, then going to Hobart which way I am not sure of. I am at Greens Lake, ziggy is still here. Met Popeye today he is with the greynomads. Hot here today. I go to my daughters tomorrow ready for Chrissy. Merry Christmas John, see you next year

Hi John,
the weather has been good since we have been here around 22 degrees with intermittant cloud and overnight 9 degrees expected tonight.
Was expecting a colder reception from Tasmania and am pleased with the weather that we have experienced.

I remember you girls, you liked the paintings on my van. have a good time Jimbo will look after you.
Tassie is going really well and when I get back to Melbourne early March the van will be sold, I have put a deposit on a coaster like Jimbo's so the trusty Hi Ace will have to be sold.
