This has been bugging me for a while. The jockey wheel has 'lumps' welded to it which I guess are designed to stop it sliding in the mount. This just doesn't work for me...they just come loose!
Do I put the 'lump' facing toward the A frame, or outwards, and which hole do I use. This problem happens to me on my van and my triler....and I have 3 separate jockey wheels....and the mounts are not stretched/distorted...help. (hope the pic ain't too big)
I normally put the "lumps" into the slot of the retaining clamp that is level with the clamp bolt. Not over or under it. Use the "lump" that gets the wound up wheel closest to the ground. If the "lump" slips out of the locating slot then your retaining clamp needs to be adjusted tighter. Mostly the jockey wheel will slip if the clamp is between the "lumps".
Also I notice that you have a power wheel attached. There can be differences in sizes of the jockey wheel tube diameter between manufacturers so some retaining clamps will not clamp as tightly on some tubes, however should not slip past the locater.

Your clamp does not appear to be tight enough, it may how not be clear in the picture how tight it is. When there is no weight on the wheel you should not be able to move the shaft around in the clamp. I have had to grind the end off the screw to get it to pull up tight enough to hold the shaft tightly enough. Make sure the end of the screw has 1 - 2 mm clearance to the nearest piece of metal.
Those bumps will work their way through the clamp if the clamp does not hold things tightly enough. I align my lumps so they engage with the inner slot in the clamp. If the clamp is holding tightly enough the lumps can align with the bottom of the clamp, they do not necessarily have to be in the slot.

Thanks for the replies - clamp was tight in the picture but I noticed this morning when I double checked that the threaded end of the screw is touching the A frame. I'll grind that off and use the centre slot of the clamp - was never sure where to actually put it. The jockey wheel on the right is fractionally smaller than the other - I may fabricate a sleeve to fit over the tube to enlarge it and see how it goes. Thanks again.

Rather than building up the diameter of the smaller jockey wheel, I suggest you reduce the length of the screw to suit it. That will produce a much stronger grip on the shaft.

Thanks PeterD...that's a better idea than having to carry a sleeve for the smaller jockey wheel which I WILL lose. And Nomad246 - got more than I asked for. This place has a nice feeling.
