Set off this morning early from Greens Lake and the GPS worked very well getting me to Melbourne with ease until I was given instruction to turn right and was presented with 3 options coming off the freeway. I went round again and got so fed up with it I decided to go it alone to get away from the bridge and the freeway, I saw a sign to the dockland and disregarded the GPS and took that turn, it then took up the navigation where there were no other options but to go right or left. I eventually under stood that if it said turn right in 1km and then followed with turn right in 300mtrs it meant take the 300mtrs first then after do the 1km turn. I got there eventually and found a 4hr parking area free and had coffee and lunch. Went down to the ship later and found the parking area costing $4.50 per hour, didn't use that area instead waited the last hour in a side street. Eventually it was time to start the entry procedures and now I am sitting in my Ocean Recliner with the engines throbbing below and trying to type on a moving keyboard, not to worry have to get on with the uploading in case the lights go off and I am stuck.
The lights have gone out so I am now at a table upstairs in a viewing area the table is moving and the chairs turning and I haven't had anything to drink.
Updating:-
finally got off the boat but not without drama, needed much more revs to climb out of the parking area up to the departure deck, tried many times with the build up behind. They had to reverse everyone out of my way so I could get a run up, doesn't like cold starts but not to worry alls well that ends well and after maximum revs I crawled up the ramp. Had no problems with quarantine even offered them the opera net to check for old weed but it was ok. Bought a pass for national parks for $60 lasting for 2 months so I had better get my NPs done by then. After my fishing experiences I didn't buy a fishing licence but I can fish in the ocean without a licence from the beach or rocks. So now I am heading for Railton to catch up with Billeee & Jules. Gday...
Glad to hear it all went (mainly) very well getting through Melbourne, across the Strait to Tassie and ultimately in making land in Tassie.
The above photo you posted .... intriguing ... so are those Tasmanian cannon designed to keep 'mainlanders' from attacking the ship? Or are they for shooting albatross to provide for a 'breakfast with a difference' ??
Stay well - and enjoy the Apple Isle.
cheers - John

Gday...
WOW ! I hope John is recovering and not in custody, Jules has now been granted her freedom and the world in Tassie has been restored to tranquility.
Guess all those stress-free weeks at Green's created some pent-up emotions .....
Seriously though - hope it all comes out good in the end.
Cheers - John

You can play around in bookings on Spirit of Tasmania site to see the costs.
eg. $322 for our car and camper in Jan 2013
It depends on date, vehicle length and height.

Hi Pauline as Pam suggests you can try out various options on the site by using the back key. My total cost was $333 that was for going across overnignt in November and returning during the day in January...........I will have to check out the return if I cancel to return after the PeaceFest,
