Put 2 new BFG tyres on the Navara in Longreach- one made in Japan the other USA - am interested in the long term comparison. Has anyone else experienced this and which tyre lasted longer. I'll back the Japanese. Have put 2 more on in Dubbo - both USA made.

G'day,
I assume you refer to BF Goodrich. I have the All-Terrain T/A, USA made, on my old Patrol and after approx 87,000Km they have only suffered 1 recent puncture.
That's 87,000km across 5 rotated tyres, not 4 constantly on. I see it as an average per tyre of about 70,000Km.
They are still not down to the safety blocks, but not far off it, and only ever suffered 1 recent puncture. Pretty good after severe off road in those amount of Km's.
It'll be interesting how the nip Vs yank compares.
For me the yanks have done a great job.
Cheers

Yes nomad246 - same tyres as you. I got only 35,000 out of the Kumo's. I know someone who has done all the major outback tracks always running BFG's and never even had a puncture so that influenced my decision - this time I said "forget the price- get a good tyre" hoping it will pay off in the long run. Mmmm - the van is next.

Never had an outback puncture either, my only puncture was near home and found it flat in the shed. Not bad for the old tyres.
If this old vehicle was off on a trek it'd need a new set of shoes now, but I think I've well and truely got my moneys worth out of the current tyres.
Let's know how your nip Vs yank stacks up, I'll predict you may not see much difference.
Cheers

Thats what I thought a few years back, fitted a set & had the two rears fall apart within two days of each other in outback Qld. I was not impressed as these had only done low kls & we were in the first week of a lap around the big block,

Wouldn't mind a pic of your 2 rears fallin apart,
I never heard of such a tragic event before, but there's always a first time.

Didnt need a pic to remind me of it, the steel belts just break apart & explode. I had a Micky Thompson do the same thing earlier this year, Ifelt the radical behaviour & was able to stop & change it just before it burst as well.
Over many years in the motor game I have seen dozens of tyres do this, they break up in the belt section & tear the rest of the tyre appart. When the explode they can do sever damage to body work & componets.

Time for new tires on the old Patrol.
Have had 2 sets of Cooper HTs and was very happy with them .. around 80,000 Km out of each & replaced just before they got to the wear bars. Curent set around 5 yrs old.
Only do round 10,000 Km per yr these days & no long trips in mind and the '96 Patrol coming to the end of the road with me, so with the price of Coopers at $330 each I thought that I'd look at aletrnatives.
Bob Jane offered a few 'mid range' choices at round $250 each but suggested that USA made General Grabbers might be the go in my situation at $200 each. They look OK with lots of tread, just like the Coopers, so I went that way. Be interesting to see what Kms I get out of them.

Cupie, you had a good run out of those Coopers and sounds like the Patrol also
