Never mind.....fact of life Billeeee......In the West on the news tonight they've just discovered a synthetic pot called "Venom" apparently it was being sold widely in WA including to schoolchildren. It is similar to Kronic.
Also Venom was being sold or used in other states too, see;

Very true Jules, although I do believe that a combination of both grass and booze elevates the problem.
Also any meds someone may be on, years ago I had a couple of beers on top of meds not realising or knowing they shouldn't be mixed and boy what a trip, lampoles were swaying and distances going in and out, luckily I got home without killing anyone.....no warnings around in those does about not drinking with them.....

The way the wheels turn in government I doubt it Billleeeeee, never thought about the sleeping bit as long as it doesn't happen behind the wheel. Only tried a bit of weed (few puffs) and some hashish oil spread on bread like vegemite, but it was as part of a legal course on drugs and their effects etc.
I can't say I'm convinced it is a good thing though, although there is some evidence it may be good in a medical sense for some conditions etc, although I think they still have a long way to go before the drug companies start cashing in.
My meds keep me dopey enough now without anything else
Each to their own though, I don't judge people by what choices they make, take people as I find them and them me I hope!

As far as I am concerned people can addle their brains any way they want, but God help the person who gets behind the wheel affected by drugs and wipes out someone in my family, because I will be waiting for them when they get out of gaol.

In present day Oz it is impossible to have a discussion on most things without being attacked personally for being on one side or the other. So it behooves me to declare up front that I have never used marijuana, most likely never will and I don't smoke either, 5although I do enjoy the recreational beer, but preferably stout. I wouldn't swap a mug of chilled stout for a large laundry bucket of the finest Griffith grown whatever.
Whew, having got that out of the way, maybe it is safe to say that I have long believed in legalising the possession by an adult of 1ounce (bears witness to how long I have had the opinion) of dried plant material and a maximum of six plants.
That is because the elderly especially should be able to use recreational drugs where the risk is not larger than other common approved drugs and risk taking. This product could be beneficial in my view to some of the conditions and pain suffered by the old. Even the odd few tots of rum or brandy are beyond the budget of many elderly people.
It is cheap and importantly it should be simple for home production. Saying that gives away my belief that marijuana is the very lucrative crop that finances criminal drug gangs. It also brings youth into contact with criminals.
Besides, the police do not have the resources to collar seriously antisocial, violent criminals.
While I might prefer to socialise with the odd port or medicinal stout, I would be pleased to find cheer in the campfire company of any who smoke tobacco, ganga or MJ. I care so I mind my own garden, always honoring my belief that others should be allowed to mind theirs.

I agree with most of the previous points you made John, however not being a smoker and having breathing problems, I would not care to share a campfire with others smoking either tobacco or Mary Jane around me for reasons of my own health. I am not talking about those who have the courtesy to move away temporarily when having a puff so others are not affected by their habit, but those who just don't care about the health of those around them when they do.
Your latter comments above I do believe in, another way of saying this is I am not my brothers keeper, which is fine as long as it does not affect others. As an example, someone who likes to drink but does so responsibly so not to affect others around them. The other side of the coin is somone who drinks to excess so they affect their family (say wife and kids) can't hold down a job because of this, may become abusive or violent and as a result of their actions their family suffers or those on the road if they drink and drive.
Whether it is grog or MJ or anything else, if it is done with responsibility and respect and consideration for others around them it is a different matter. Fortunately, most of those I have come across during my RV travels have been in this category.

A couple of really interesting posts from johng and Duh. The decriminalisation of mariajuana is well overdue - if it is made legal to have "personal" amounts for health, it will take away the criminal element - though in my time I have not come across anyone that I would consider to be criminal selling or using the weed. The health benefits are mostly in pain relief in my opinion - people with arthritis, and other illnesses, get great respite when they use mariajuana - migraine sufferers, people on chemo, and many other ailments can have their symptoms relieved.
And you will find that most who use grass, are considerate - always move away, unlike some cigarette smokers, who blow their stinking tobacco smoke over anyone, never considering others - because it is "legal" - they think they have the right to smoke when and where they like.
Another point - if statistics were done, pretty sure they would find that more vehicle accidents are caused by alcohol, than mariajuana. People who drink are often easily incited to violence, whereas with grass, you become very mellow, and relaxed.
I have been both drunk and stoned - and know that I am much more lucid and aware under the influence of grass than alcohol. No hangover either!!

Good points Jules, I think it is more of a case of if people do use either they are aware of the quantities they are using if they are going to drive, also that a combination of both (called potentiation) if driving can increase the effects of alcohol on drivers. An individual's tolerance differs from person to person also. In relation to MJ, I would not personally use it (despite arthritis etc) as I do not like the claimed dangers to health as well as the benefits to some. One of the effects was said to be increased heart rate, so for someone with tachy cardia who takes meds daily for this condition after an unsuccesful op I would avoid it like the plague, including being near anyone who was smoking it.
I think the police have road side tests for drugs and alcohol now, I remember reading one of Yeo's blogs about him being pulled over in country NSW and tested for them, they saw the painting on his van and thought he was sure to be a positive. Wrong, he was sqeaky clean! lol!
I would like to clarify an earlier statement, if around a campfire and the majority were smoking whatever, I would simply move further away from those who are smoking on the upwind side, or if it got too bad (this includes the fire smoke) leave altogether. However my experience has been that the majority of those at campfire gatherings do not smoke, or if they do don't while in close proximity to the group.
I did not start this thread to knock those who choose to smoke whatever they choose, only to point out that the laws are being changed for some states in the US and there have been moves in Australia to do the same. Like with everything else, responsibility is the key word.
On the other side of the coin, the most liberal pot country in the western world, Holland, while still allowing it for locals, are tightenin their pot laws for what they term "drug tourists", see;

Thanks Vic - my post was not knocking smokers in general, but I have been at happy hours where cigarette smokers light up, because "we are in front of my van, I will smoke where I want" - I have left the gathering then. Not allergic to smoke or anything, just don't like the stench of tobacco - MJ, however smells nice, to me.
As for what is happening in Holland, there are always some who spoil it for others.
And, yes, John (Yeoeleven) was pulled up for ramdom breath test in Mt Isa, combination hippy van and a Bob Marley t shirt, and his huge smile, caused the police to do a drug test on him as well - needless to say, he was clean as a whistle! Gave us all a big laugh though.

Was anything mentioned about combining pot and booze together when driving and the effect of that? See;
effects on driving the negative effect that alcohol has on driving is well documented. Cannabis use also affects a persons ability to concentrate and react in driving situations. Even at low doses the combination of alcohol and cannabis is dangerous and places the drivers, their passengers and others on the road at serious risk.
