I'm a mad keen photographer. Mainly portraits but enjoy the chance when time allows to photograph landscapes and old ruins etc. I'm purchasing a Canon 1Dx very soon...(santa) What do you use and what do you like to shoot?

d90 nikon and aray of lenses, dont like portraits much because some people dont like the end result, cant make them all beautiful. Like birds, dead trees, water and section of desert etc. Dont believe in post edit, if its not right off the camera it just airnt right. cheers blaze

Have a look at Yeoeleven's blog and his fantastic photo's along the way, can't remember what camera's he used, he changed them at one stage when one went for a swim in the Denmark River when the canoe he was in capsized, hence a new camera, see;
Canon S100 - it is small enough to carry on my belt all the time and takes pretty good photos. It has limitations but the main advantage is I can carryn it everywhere with ease. Of course, I don't take it swimming....
It works well for the range of photos I take, landscape, family, people etc. I use MS Digital Image Suite for editing and I also compile slideshows using Roxio.

I have a Canon EOS 300D with a couple of lenses 18mm-55mm and 75mm-300mm but I don't like it as much as my old Canon EOS 50 film camera with the same lenses. Never mind it definitely beats the old Polaroid camera when you want instant results and on the road.
Edit....I love Landscape and Night Photography, not a portrait fan at all or black and white for that matter.

I have an Olympus something or other. I am not very good and I hope to do a photography course before we start traveling. I like taking panoramic landscapes,trees flowers, insects and animals. For this reason I would like a camera to take better closeups. Of course the family photos are fun but I often use my Motorola XOOM tablet as they are quick to share on facebook.

i have an old cannon cyber shot power some thing, but these days just use my iphone, so quick to pull out and take pics and vids , not too bad for a phone camera ..

let me say that I am not into photography, I do not edit the pics that I put on the forum and blog. I am a point and shoot photographer and since the canoe mishap at Denmark in this new year I have used a Fujifilm XP that I bought because it is waterproof, shockproof, dust proof and freeze proof. I was going across the top and wanted to be prepared for anything, the freeze proof was a bit over kill. In the main I use the automatic setting and upload to the blog as is but when copying to the forum I cut the pixels in half down to 800 X 600.
The pics uploaded to the blog are also added to a Picasa album and there are currently 746 so over the past couple of years must have been busy.
Thanks Vic for putting the link to the blog, the more who look at it encourage me to keep it up, although being here at Green's Lake I find it difficult to keep up the posts. I enjoy traveling and posting the places where I stay but have been here now for 2 weeks with another 3 to go so variety is scarce,

Thanks for the feedback John, although you say you are not into photgraphy, you definitely have an eye for taking a good (read excellent) shot in the way you pick your subject and backgrounds etc. Many of us take photo's, but nowhere near with the natural flair you seem to have.
I know I enjoyed your photo's and I am sure most here would agree, they are superb!

I have just upgraded (as a 60th birthday pressy) to a Pentax K5 which is their latest offering in DSLR with an 18-200 zoom and it is weather and dust proof and will be able to use all my old lenses and attachments from my film cameras(35mm).
I still have my medium format (120 film) 6 x 7 mamiya and to upgrade it to digital would cost around $33,000 and the result would still not be as sharp as the film.
I love photographing people particularly at work or doing something they enjoy. I am a bit hopeless at landscape but I am trying to improve. I like to make my pictures in the camera using my skills I only use editing software to crop or cut and paste.

Love photography when we travel. I sit with my Canon EOS 500D on my knee on automatic, so I never miss a thing.
Sunsets and spiders are my favourite. The other half chases the snakes, I sit in the get away vehicle.
I would love to try sunrises but alas, they seem to happen at the wrong time of the day for me.
I use my camera on manual for sunsets or anything that is earlier in the day.
Did a camera course in Toronto before the last trip. He taught us how to use the camera on manual and what all the settings were.
Very informative.

I'm a mad keen photographer too Julie Ann. I have a Canon 600D - I updated this year after having a Canon 400D for several years. Unfortunately I dropped my 18-55mm lens and broke it so I have treated myself to an 18-135 Canon lens which I am really pleased with, it means I do not carry two lenses when travelling now.

I take a few pictures with my Nikon D80, Nikon DX 18-55mm lens and Nikon DX 80-400mm lens.
I also have another Nikon lens that I drink my coffee out of (see anim below)

I love photography. I've been a member of this http://tpphotoclub.org/ for a few years and it shows that I'm a slow learner as I'm not out of auto on the Olympus e410 yet, not that it matters much. Looking to get a compact point and shoot for christmas, they take excellent shots and are much easer to carry and not so heavy or awkward. I get plenty of neck pain from carrying the camera around for to long. Trying my hand a Photoshop as well. Helen

Love taking birds and flowers.
My photos are more for me than to show others.
Did an 8 hour course to learn how to use DSLR and am having a lot of fun trying to use the manual settings.
