Gday...
I am not fully coherent on the 'rules' for advancing loans to Pensioners. However, I would have thought the only criteria for such loans would have been a) ability to repay; b) level of asset (collateral) such as bank balances, any property, investments. I very much doubt just being a pensioner would preclude your consideration, and hopefully, approval of a loan.
A quick search of Google produced this site from ANZ -
It certainly includes consideration of pensions. I would be fairly confident all banks, and most financial institutions, would, given your ability to repay etc etc etc, at minimum consider, if not approve a loan to purchase a vehicle.
Don't give up ... try other institutions - literally get quotes on cost of borrowing.
As an aside, almost ALL finance arranged by a car yard/dealer would be the most expensive loan you could probably get.
cheers - John

you should get a Rolls Royce and a Rolex to go with it, perhaps another Rolex for Sunday's
if you did that centerlink would be looking at your paperwork and saying "what is going on here"

Did you know a new law has come in making it not allowed for car sales yards to arrange finance for Pensioners.
When I asked why I was told The govt thinks pensioners shouldn't be allowed luxuries.
Not sure if thats the real reason but the Govt have brought in the above law anyway.

Check with the RAC too Marg, I am not sure what their criteria is for their loans, might be worth checking.
I notice that Australian Car Sales are doing free sales ads now like Gumtree, may be a source for selling you old campervan and possibly buying another. For some reason they list campervans under Station Wagons, don't seem to have a separate section for them, see;
I have just posted a response that should be helpful, Marj. However, the following came up when I posted it -
"Your message has been flagged as potential spam and needs to be approved by an administrator before it will appear on the forum."
I assume the URL for the ANZ bank site must have upset the 'server'.
In essence, the site (which you can see when you/if get the post) shows that the ANZ bank certainly does extend loans to pensioners.
I also said that you should try a number of financial institutions - eg all banks - and literally get quotes for cost of borrowing. Finance arranged by car yards/dealers will almost always be the dearest loan you could obtain.
Cheers - John

I suspect that sales person was just a wanker. I've never seen such laws and have known many seniors borrow money for vehicles.

That is "car yard" speak I would think. Maybe the law is to stop some unscrupulous dealers using "shifty" finance - with horrendous interest rates!!!!
Try the banks - or go to Centrelink and talk to someone there - they have financial advisors - maybe they can help you.
Good luck.

I was selling in the 80's and there was a law then that pensioners couldnt get finance. But it wasnt because they didnt deserve luxuries, it was because the pension was so low they might not be able to repay the loan!!!
Good luck Marj!

I don't particularly like the NAB , but I know they will give pensioners personal loans .
Everybodys personal circumstances are different of course , and you would have to satisfy their requirements .

Pensioners?
Aren't they those old people, hunched over the steering wheel with a silly hat on, travelling at about 20-30kph?
They shouldn't be given loans to continue blocking our roads.
If they were responsible pensioners they would stay at home knitting, do wood work, saving to give all that dosh to the kids.
