Is anyone else getting this on the top of their forum page in a purple box. I did click on it to see what it was about but it really doesn't look relevant to grey nomading and wondering if its a bit suss.

I'm presuming Cindy put it up on the page but it doesn't seem to match anything else we have links to.

Over the years I have been computing there have been a lot of these sites and all they are after is you and your friends email addresses so that they can sell them on to big business, what happens is you make a card on their site (you have to join, giving your email addy) and then supply your friends email address, they in turn will send your friend an email asking to click this link and get your card.
The above action was also considered to be a good way of attaching virus to the card, I would advise anybody not to use a site like this.
If I get a card request from any company I delete the email, they usually tell you that you have a card from your friend, send your friend an email asking them not to supply sites like this with your email address.
The ad in the top right corner here on GN says Send a free card, it's NOT free if they want your email address, and in this case they get your email addy and your friends, DO NOT DO IT that is my advice.
Just thought I should add that not all site's of this nature will sell your info, but I choose to stay away from all site's like thess card making ones.

Hi all, No major drama - this is a sponsored link which I put on the page. Obviously, the advertisers are hoping their service will appeal to some grey nomads but it's clearly not for everybody ... just a matter of individual choice. Hope that helps to clear it up.

Thanks Wombat. We've taken the ad down. We try to be very careful about which advertisers we allow and we want our members to feel entirely comfortable visiting sponsors of the site. Thanks for letting us know of the possible implications of this advert and enabling us to act quickly.

Cindy, I did not really mean for you to take down the ad, after all it's money to help this site continue, I only put the warning up so that other members know about these sites, and it would then be up to each member if they wanted to use such a site.
But in the end it is up to you what ads you accept and what ads you do not.

Thank You for the ''insight'' Wombat, it was a good clear explanation of what it is ? and the reasoning behind it ?? as is often said. There is no such thing as a ''Free'' lunch.
With all your helpful knowledge, I cannot understand why BH, and Dougwe pick on you all the time.

jules, they have been around for a while but I did not join because they pay you into your bank account and I do not give any banking details online to anybody, do not even do online banking.
