G'day all I have fitted a 3rd tank to my Avan for drinking I was wondering how to remove the plastic taste from my new water tank. We have flushed it out 5 times , put vanilla flavouring in it but still the horrid plastic taste remains. Any suggestions ?? The other 2 tanks are for creek-dam water for washing- shower but had no plastic taste when new... All 3 tanks are the same brand 95 liter tanks....

If the twin tanks are not used for drinking water you could swap one of them over with the new tank.

Try Bicarb of Soda (Baking Soda) I use it in my van tank as do a lot of other nomads. Leave it in for a while and rinse the same as you are doing with vanilla. It won't hurt if a little is left in there as it is drinkable anyway.

Are you using a quality 'Food' grade hose that complies with Australian Food Safety Standards, or a garden hose to fill the tank? OJ

If the bi carb doesn't work, add heaps of salt (1/2 large container you buy at shop) dissolved in hot water before adding and then fill tank.
Leave overnight and rinse till not salty. This works in our ute tanks when we haven't used them for ages.
Cheers Baz

Bi carb worked :) Put 1 packet in the tank and let it sit for 2 days... drained tank and refilled . Cuppa tasted GREAT :)

you'd be pretty hyper after drinking that much red cordial though. Personally I'd fill it with bourbon... wouldn't taste any plastic taste then... hic.

Your problem may not be the tank. I most likely is the hose your using. DON'T use a normal garden hose. Get a good potable water hose.
Bunnings have one, (Light Blue) 10metre lengths long. It is a common fault with caravanners new to the GN life style.
Thanks for the tips
