Sorry to hear about your dog Jules. Theres Green Lake, often used and recommended by members of this forum. Its #475 in Camps Australia Wide 6.
Have a look for it in the Get Togethers section of this forum.

Any recommendations for free camps off the beaten track in Victoria that aren't inundated with kids over the holidays. We want to get away from the Christmas holiday crowds and high season park rates. We'll also look at house-sits, but would appreciate any advice. We are now dogless ("recently bereaved" ... :( ... so dog-friendly is no longer an issue for us.)

Heaps of members here heading to Greens Lake from mid October I believe - great spot - plenty of room - and welcome to the site julesvee.

Depends what area you are interested in.
As other said green lake, there is Ayson's Reserve just around the corner from green lakes. Lovely area very large and flat but no brown as the grass is dead and you are close to the Campasse river and not far from Elmore or Rochester for shopping. Near Cohuna ther is some nice spots along the Gunbower river and you can find a secluded spot somewhere as there is many miles of track running from one end to the other. You just drive till you find your ideal spot. You can enter via Barham or Cohuna.
Tocumwall has several good sites but would be busy over xmas.
Howlong has a good area just out of town by the bridge along side the river. Not a large area and not sure how busy it would be,.
Benella has a nice spot a few miles out on the Shepparton road.
Regards Brian

How about New South Wales?
I am about to head for the hills off the coast for sure but am not sure how far I will have to go to get out of the rat race lol. Gets very busy here around Nowra from now on.
