helped him get his dinner, he'll be 89 in november ...
In 8 years ill be 50 , if i get there with my own health problems
dont know if i like this , guess i got no choice.. oh well...
just wish i could make dad 20 or so years younger so he can go out
and enjoy the motor home ,instead he is putting it on the market..
if he had listened to me a bit more we would have made a lot more use out of it,
i just try to do what i can for him now...
any ways , just letting of some keyboard steam i guess, thanks for listening

I'm with you Milo. Although I'm already there according to some people. Even though I'll be 71 next month, I still think a lot younger. Not going to let it stop me from getting on the road one of these days in the not too distant future.
Glad your Dad's OK. He's lucky to have a son like you to look out for him.

My neighbour George is 86 or 87. he's told me so many times and I've forgotten already. He lives by himself, his wife died 3 years ago. He has a large house on a large 3/4 acre block. Drives a car, flat deck truck, ride on mower and a mobility scooter. He has a farm out further somewhere he checks on regularly. My son says he runs it all by himself, I don't know how. He is nearly deaf and and has shown me the scars on his legs from operations, something to do with veins I think. He has difficulty walking properly. But he is a goer. The lady next door to him is Rose, she is in her late 70s. She has just got her real estate license, crazy. She owns all the blocks around us including her house and large 3/4 acre block and another 7 that surround her, George and us. Its her block my nomad friends have parked on when coming to visit. She comes along for a chat too. And wil lmow the area for them with her ride on mower. She sold her car last month before going to USA for a family get together. She hasn't got a new one yet so gets around on her ride on mower. There are some crazy people in this town, these two amaze me. Both have a sort of eccentric way about them but both are amazing people. Just thought I would put this down to show milo that being old is not a handicap.
And of course I am 64 and back to doing what I did more than 20 years ago. Cutting scrub with an axe, mulching up all the overgrowth. Stopping overgrowing trees from growing where they shouldn't like into the eaves of the carport and into the planks on the fence. Hopefully will save them from destruction before it gets any worse.

the alternative to getting old is much worse - too many people don't make it to old age. It's almost a year since my 27 year old son passed away. He didn't get that opportunity.
I hope I grow to a nice old age without too much pain and disability.

Absolutely Milo - agree with Marje - I will be 65 in October, and intend to keep on keeping on for at least another 20 years or more. Travelling this wonderful country sure helps keep you young in the mind -
My gosh, my eldest son is 42. If thats old I am ancient.

I heard of a lady who has been married for years and is now expecting her first child at the age of 49!! She says she wasn't ready for it earlier! I hope she's a 'young' 49 or she won't be able to keep up with the broken nights and runaway toddler.

Milo, I know what you mean. My mother is 84. She runs rings around me. My quad sister often looks after the grandies and being in the chair is not easy to change nappies, pick up toys etc so my mother often helps her. Kids love her. she takes them outside to look at planes, sits on the floor and plays with them, chases after them and puts them on swings. Only problem is she now has dementia and is not the person I knew. I dont want to get to that either but on the other hand she still has a heart of gold and the memories are good (most). She is very loving and hates the thought of me travelling.
Try not to let it get you down(easier said than done) you are obviously a great help and comfort for him. God bless you both.

I went to Melbourne for the weekend to help celebrate my Mum's 80th birthday. I am just beyond thrilled that I still have my mum around, she is still my best mate. Even though she has Parkinsons disease and cannot live by herself anymore, she still enjoys herself and has dreams and ambitions. One of them was to have a ride a Harley Davidson and she got to do that for her birthday. Funniest thing I've seen is my Mum with a leather jacket on and helmet hair....!!!

Have my mum up here for my eldest daughters' Wedding on the 25th August. Mum will be 87 on 30 th Sept.On Saturday night we are taking her to my daughters' Hens Night. High Tea with shirtless waitors. Then on to Dinner and Show at a Male Strip Club. Told her she will be sitting front row and centre

Nobody ASKS you get old, but the other option is long and permanent. I'd rather be old than dead, honest I would.
I like it best right now, old enough to be retired, financially secure, independant. Free enough to be happy, but not without ties or lonely.
I am the youngest today that I will ever be again in my life, and I suspect the best looking.

dads ok , his knees are giving him hell im glad to be back helping again , after all that happened last year he wants to go to Adelaide, theres only one of my mums sisters left there the only other is back in kimba.. hes having on/off double vision, a few times while driving and watching tv the motor home is on the market, which in some was is a good thing.. others welll.... theres 4 things id love to do, that id sell my soul for my mum to be back, 6 years in November, i still cant believe that!! dad to be 30 years younger to have all my top teeth back and ben back
and to be happy.....
i just get down n frustrated sometimes.....

As for your dads knees - has he tried magnets - they do work, even a magnetic pillow between the knees at night might help. Take care of him and yourself mate.

Absolutely Milo - agree with Marje - I will be 65 in October, and intend to keep on keeping on for at least another 20 years or more. Travelling this wonderful country sure helps keep you young in the mind -
