I would recommend subscribing (free) to this government site to receive scam warnings alerts to keep you informed.

A lot could be caught Daz, not all up with scam tactics etc.
Recently I advertised on Gumtree and the Quokka Online, both have an email function to reply to (that they can track the sender on) however if you also put a mobile number on your ad (I do but I check out the sender before I reply....most have an overseas prefix if they are a scammer) the send you an sms saying they are interested and could you send more details on an email address, usually gmail or hotmail instead of replying to the advertised site email system.
I just ignore these and dump them, I do put my mobile number on the advertising site to get more response but am careful to vet any replies.

On gumtree I always put CASH SALE ONLY and EMAIL CONTACT ONLY after I have vetted the buyer I then give a phone no, I never put my ph no on gumtree.

What about high value items like late model cars or RV's ?????
