I think you can get a powder for dogs to get rid of the odour. Try the pet shops or a vets.

One product our Vet advised to use to mask the doggy smells and reduce the need for bathing the dog whilst on the road is Pet Plus Lustre Aid Cologne.
It is a coat conditioner, cologne and deodorant spray. It is a greaseless spray containing absorbable Lanolin. It has a pleasant scent that last for quite a while and does give a lustre to the coat.
We purchased from our local Pet Store.

Yes we have used Lustre Aid as well. Without saying, its easier if the dogs don't shed - which is why we chose poodles. We also make sure we have washable floor mats and bed throws to keep carpet and beds/lounges fresh. I found it useful to give the dogs (2) bones regularly- we use chicken wings/drumsticks. This keeps their anal glands healthy which keeps those odours at bay. In addition, for one of ours who is prone to ear infections, I keep his ears plucked and clean.
... and wet dogs are banned in the van.

My dog's breath smells like it is coming from her rear end. She smells but I don't notice any lingering smells in the van. Other might not sure.
Gotta say it doesn't worry me but maybe bicarb soda might help.

Oh Deb & Gary
I forgot to say NEVER feed your dog canned food on the road- makes them fart heaps and gives them bad breath.
(There are other things that cause bad breath too)

Bad breath in dogs is an indicator of an underlying health problem, usually dental hygiene, a trip to the vet will help identify and possibly eliminate the problem. Check this link
