In Darwin at Free Spirit Resort. I cannot praise the NT National Park Service highly enough, their Parks are incredible, their employees very helpful, their campsites affordable - Well Done! Sorry to hear that the gov't is considering cutting the tourism budget, I hope it doesn't apply to the Parks seeervice.
A few days experiencing Darwin, then on to Kakadu before heading (slowly - another visit to Elsy NP certainly planned) back to QLD.
Safe travels everyone!

I agree the National Parks are well run but was disappointed with Kakadu but that was because so many places were closed when I passed through probably will be fine by now. I avoided the $25 fee because in my opinion it should have been well discounted because of the closures.

Hey Loki
Caught up with your posts and now have joined your blog.
We are in Darwin at the moment too, before heading back to Cairns sometime later this month or early next.
I'm heading out of Darwin tomorrow for Kakadu. After that I'll work my way back to Brisbane via the Atherton Tablelands & other areas of interest I may find along the way.
Your Litchfeild NP experiences mirror my own, it is certainly a magnificent park!
I'll keep an eye out for you along the way,
Cheers,
Anton

If I can join in here... I found that Litchfield was indeed memorable and magnificient. Kakadu is different. The best spots seem to be in the control of the high priced resorts which are run by the professional resort companies on behalf of the Land Coucils. They have perfected the art of wealth extraction from your wallet.
There are other places which are remote and beautiful, but there is one place that is really worth checking out. It is easily accessible with tar road all the way and it is free.
If you remember the scene from Crocodile Dundee #1 where Paul Hogan was up on a lookout, gazing across a green plane, well that was filmed in this location. You can climb up to where he was standing.
The rock art is astounding. There is an ancient painting which is thousands of years old of a Thylocine (Tasmanian tiger). Figure that out!
Anyhow, if you do Kakadu and then head south towards Pine Creek, you must spend a night at Pussy Cat Flats. It is a fun place. You can't miss it just before you rejoin the Stuart Highway near Pine Creek. The bar opens at 4pm.
Enjoy Clyde Camel
