Hi, We are heading out to Birdsville/Lake Eyre/ Marree (1/8/12) to fly over the lake. Has anyone been there lately and can they suggest anything or everything we should know. Cheers Rob

I think they're still doing scenic flights from Maree, but I'm not sure about Lyndhurst or anywhere else. It's a beautiful, once-in-a-lifetime experience, worth every cent. I did a flight out of Lyndhurst at 0900hrs, but I reckon the earlier flight would be better. The haburger at the Mungeranie Roadhouse if worth a stop for a soak in the hot springs. I don't know if the ferry is running or if the Birdsville Track is open. You'll have to check that out before you set off, and you'll have to keep asking as you go out there. Things can change quickly as you negotiate the roads slowly. Carry some sort of radio communication as there is no mobile phone out there.

My sister-in-law did the flight out of Maree and said she was glad she did the morning one as the afternoon flight got a lot of cloud. She had a great time. They did vacate the area very quickly though (in their tour bus) when a 3 metre snake decided to hang around!
