Can anyone tell me if you are able to recieve Foxtel or Austar when travelling. Will they allow the service for GN. I know that I probably will not watch as much tele as I watch now when I start travelling however I would like to know if the option is there. Some say that is it unavailable, others say it is. Any clues would be great.
Sharon.

I have also been looking at this. If you have a sat dish you can connect to Austar using the same box and card you use at home as long as you are on sat at home not cable. but in short yes you can have Austar on the road

Ask Wombat, he is a big fan of the VAST system and can tell you all about it - I think it costs about $500 for installation. I bought a kogan and won't worry about satelite as I don't watch tv much anyway.

As Peter said, yes, you can have Foxtel/Austar on the road, but only if you have Satellite at home.
They WILL NOT set you up as a GN (yet) Just take your box with you and the only problem you have is if the box plays up.

It is not your Box GST. It is only on loan. When you cancel, you have to send it back

You are OK as long as you dont tell them.
I am chasing up the FREE pensioners SAT TV. I have found that there is a good chance that we can get it IF we apply in a sat area. Eg an area where they need a sat dish on their homes. You will have to stay in the area till they do the FREE instal as they insist that the contractors does the install.
So so far they are saying if I register in a sat area and stay for up top 6 weeks I can get it free. Will see what happens as when I stay at my mates place he has only Sat and they said that a 800Km drive for one install is Ok. See our money is working well. I have all sat gear so only need the box and just change over but NO they must do it them selves.
Most find that they don't use the TV much once on the road. I hardly use mine it is mainly for looking at photos.
Regards Brian

not quite true, you can register with VAST as a traveller, see this form
As for austar/foxtel you can use it but they do not like it, don't forget you would also need a dish and sat finder to enable you to locate the C1 satalite, as well as your austar/foxtel box.

Hi Wombat
What I am investigating is to get the same option as land based pensioners where they supply the dish and transponder free.
I don't watch a lot of tele but I do like the grand prix etc so usually carry a dish for those weekends.
It appears that we may be able to get the free option if we a camped in a satellite area for the time frame they need to get the installation done and they estimate 6 weeks max.
I will try while doing Blazeaid work. Will see how we go.
Regards Brian

Sorry beiffe, I have just re read your post and I thought you were talking about the vast system that people purchase at somewhere like SatPlus, I did not know there was a free pensioner option, maybe you could do a post and advise members where this info is, so that others can get it for free.
When you say dish and transponder do you mean dish and decoder or do you have to have your own decoder box?

Its the offer all pensioners got in the mail
You can get a dish if you live in a satellite area. So far it may be possible to also get the option if you are camped in the same area. eg outside the main population areas. The only thing is you have to stay in the area till they get out to install it for you.
I will investigate when I am out bush in SA later in the year.
