Hi, was wondering if anyone can tell me where to purchase small recliners for caravans, am not having much success here, I live in South Aust.
Would appreciate any help anyone can give me, we want to convert a bench seat area into a fold down table + 2 small recliner chairs. Many thanks

Hi Travellinman... theres more info on this if you type "Renovated caravan " into the Search facility above. I'd love to have recliners instead of the stupid table and seats in our van. Good luck!

I've seen a couple of conversions by removing the couch and table, replaced with reclining lounge chairs with a small table between them. The car seats sound like a brilliant idea. Everyone is so resourceful and versatile.

We bought ours from Harvey Normans. Ours are black leather, ( look similar to an office chair), they recline back to about 45 degrees and also swivel 360 degrees and have a footstool. Ours have a round base but they had others with timber cross bases.(sizes and prices from cheap to gold plated, think we paid about $400 ea for ours) Ours hasn't wandered around the van at all when on the road.We removed the dinette and built in the wheel-arch. The 2 chairs sit neatly side by side. We are still working on table designs so have the original table between the chairs, its a bit high and wide and takes up more space than we would like, but it will do for now.The original table was bolted to the floor and went lengthways. it is now just sitting on the floor and sits between the chairs and likewise it has never moved.Once we work out what we exactly need or want ,eg do we want one narrower table that we turn our chairs to face? or do we have a table each?, we will make what is required.

Damnnnnnnn!!! What a good idea. We thought a cafe setting was what we wanted, however, it's most uncomfortable, and we couldn't see any way to change the situation. Didn't think of swivel recliners. Thanks guys. We'll be looking into that. Cheers Dellie

Friends of our have recliner/ swivell chairs in their van, bought them & had them installed when the van was built as their van is their home.
They are the type that you would get from a quility furniture outlet.

Humpback caravans at Port Wakefield seemingly do the conversion for you for $3000. Not sure whether they supply the chairs or not though.

There are a range of rocker recliners that are suitable for this conversion with the cheaper ones not much more comfortable than the original and at the better end are Jason recliners which also swivel you only get the quality you pay for The original table can used and converted into a tri fold table using piano hinges with the table folding against the wall when not in use, any kitchen manufacturer can do the job at minimal cost.

Have a look at these on ebay. While they are not "real" leather they are certainly a lot cheaper than getting the real thing. We explored the recliner option for our new van due May but in the end decided on a u-shaped rear lounge. By the way Officeworks also has a good selection. Good luck!
Thank you all for your replies, given us food for thought. The inventiveness of caravaners never ceases to amaze me.

Well guys it all got too hard, went to a caravan renovation place yesterday, and using the chairs we want it is not going to fit, won't be able to fit the chairs and a table (even one that folds back), so either a new van or put up with the 'L' shape set up. Very disappointing, didn't like office chairs as they do not suit my bad back, so at the moment the whole deal is in the "Too Hard" basket, but I thank all of you for your great help and input.

Ive never seen small recliner chairs. Theyre usually quite bulky and are also not the greatest looking furniture. But I would give full points to the best recliner for comfort.

Liza, seeing as you are sticking with what you have, have you considered harder foam? I had the same issue with my back and the foam collapsing so we did a lot of chasing around and everyone wanted us to go for one down from the hardest Enduro foam available. We ended up getting our seating foam replaced with the hardest Enduro foam available and a Dacron fibre glued to the top. This is where we got ours from www.foamsuppliers.com.au/Products/products.html We found them a great company to deal with.

We have done exactly what you are looking for, got rid of that damm uncomfortable "L" shaped lounge, put carpet on the floor and got 2 recliner/rockers from Officeworks, Mildura for the princely sum $150 each, they are leather as well, that was 2 years ago and still going strong, we have a 19' 6" Avan Owen full Hight
