this will be my next one .. maybe not the cheapest, but works well and is omni-directional .. in other words, it doesn't need to be aimed in any particular direction .. just raise as necessary

I got a new TV for Myrtle, its a 15 inch vivid (Aldi)
Can't get any reception in the van with the aerial that was already in there. Asked today at the camping shop while there getting other stuff and the lady suggested now we have digital maybe the aerial is too outdated.
I am sure she is right. Will have to get another one, maybe a portable on stand that I can poke out the top of the poptop and it could sit on the roof well of the cabin.
TV works perfectly at my unit connected to my house aerial.
Any idea what I should get.

What antenna are you using now? What makes you think it is buffered and not the cable? Most antenna problems are cable problems.
Also don't get caught by this digital antenna lark. There is no such thing as a "digital antenna." Any TV antenna will pick up both analogue or digital signals in the particular band it is designed to receive.

PeterD. There is a plastic fold up type of antenna in a tube packaging that came with the van. Think it is called Foldaway. Might be as old as Myrtle for all I know, Myrtles 1981. I haven't used anything yet except tried that one and all I got was a blue screen and a sign saying No Signal. When I bought the TV back inside at home and connected to the house aerial all worked perfectly.

try another lead, maybe a friend who has a van could lend you one just to try, or goto a place that sells them with the tv and Myrtle and ask to try the lead, explain waht is happening and they will let you try one, expecially if they think you may buy a new ariel from them.

The other thing I should have mentioned is - are you connecting the antenna to an external input to wiring in the van and using a connecting lead in the van to your set? If so you could run the antenna lead through one of the top vents straight to the set. That would narrow down any lead problems.
Wombat, the problem with those stick antennas is the lead is permanently installed on the antenna.

The aerial connects direct to the tv with the cable going out through a gap in the zip of the pop top to where it goes through the plastic tubing up to the top of the antenna. Yes it is all connected in one. There are no connections anywhere in the van. TV to antenna is the way it goes. wombat I looked at that link, that is the one. maybe its a case of playing around with it more.

All fittings for digital tv should be what is know as compression fittings which is the same standard used on sat tv. Cable should be quad sheild rg6 cable ( got about 40metres here if you want to come for a drive). Also another problem that has been encountered (even before ditital) is that the qualitly of the reciever and the shielding in new tv's is only designed for strong reception areas with no thought in design to fringe reception areas. cheers blaze

I will get my S in L to look at it tomorrow. He is a computer/electronic whizz. His home has 3 different tvs with all sorts of stuff that work. He will probably have some spare of the right cable as well.

He is a very clever boy wombat. Hate asking him to help as he hardly gets any time for the family as it is.
