I don,t know whether this should be on this forum, but I just calculated my power bil, up to now, and I am $87 ahead!I have a 1.52 kw panel setup on the roof of the house, and was worried about using the aircon as its been bloody hot here of late.It was a pleaseant surprise when it worked that I was ahead.I wonder if Ergon energy will give me a cheque? I hope the govt doesn,t change the input tariff which is 0.44c per kw /hr.Bill

They already have changed the feed in price for new contracts. The tax payer is subsidising the 44c feed in.

Just did another calculation, and in the light of day , I am only $33.84 ahead, which is not too bad considering I have been using the aircon as its been bloody hot. Had a major thunderstorm this morning, and had 96mm in 2hrs!Its definately cooler, but will be back to hot and humid later.By the way, whats a pleb andwhats it got to do with a band? Bill

Hi Bill,
here in WA the tariff is still 44c and will stay that way for people that had their units installed prior to Sep 2011, if you installed after Sep 2011 the rate is 20c.
the 44c rate will stay for the next 10 years.
I would think it's the same for you as it is a government rebate rate not just a state one.
We recently got a bill for $25.17 in credit, at the end of the financial year they will send you a cheque if you are in credit, or so I have been told, but beware if you are a pensioner you will need to let the office (centrelink) know as they will treat it as an income and may make changes to your pension, so rather that get a cheque make sure you use as much power as you can towards the end of the financil year.

Big brother has eyes everywhere! As I am not on any assistance, it would be nice to get a cheque, allbeit , at the end of the finacial year. Maybe I am Converted, but I think ALL new houses should have grid connect solar systems. This will not make me popular with the power companys, but They are there for themselves, like the banks. Its nice not to get a power bill .

Most building companies over here offer it at a reduced rate to get people to buy solar, problem is if too many people get solar elec companies will go out of business, can't see that ever happening.

Base load electric generators will not disaapear due to Solar or Wind generation increases. For a start Solar dont work at night & wind isnt constant. All they will do is increase the cost of electricty to cover the short fall. When this happens God help the Old on a govt pension. Out in the country puting in Solar isnt cheap due to the long travel distance for the installers, who arent all that interested as they are bussy in the major citys.
