yes free to air with vast
you will need a double LNB and a vast decoder as well as a foxtel decoder, that's if the racing is on foxtel, my son has this set up

ive got foxtel sat at home and a spare box in my bedroom. i took the foxtel card [not box] and put it in my strong sat box. foxtel is the SAME sat as aroura / Vast. Anyway it spat it out saying unrecognised card

yes you do need to have subscribed to foxtel
foxtel only in a foxtel decoder
vast card is registered for each decoder, cards cannot be swaped

ahh ok,its kewl,it'll happen soon,vast is $250 im told so thats not far off,and i believe its compatible with the standard sat setup

all you need is the decoder, you already have the rest, dish cable and fittings.
you will need to register it as a traveller, that is very important, do not register it in WA as all stations are not avaiable just yet, pretend (or lie) you are in another state, if you reg in Vic and when you are in WA you can watch the 2030 movie at 1730.
You need to re-register every 6 months, an easy online form to complete just your name and vast card number.

if i travel and i want tv can you just use a tv with a set top box or built in hd tuner or is sat better but can you just have free to air with out using foxtel..?

the old system i have is free to air plus shopping channels plus NITV [aboriginal tv],plus goverment learning channels.

yes you can as long as you can get a signal from local area.
sat is better if you are in the bush.
