I was there in April and the whole area was disgusting. Hopefully it is better now.

The track in from the road was a bit cut about and boggy but otherwise nice. The one thing that was about to spoil it would have been the stink that developed over the next day or two from 2 dead cats that had been nailed to a tree by their legs just near the picnic table area. Suppose someone didn't like cats. I thought it might be in bad taste to post the photo of that here.

That's a disgusting act....just hope the poor cats were already dead when that happening occured.
There were some pretty heavy looking bogans with their very noisy trail bikes when I was there. Lots of bad language flowing too.
The grass was also very high and made seeing the weir very difficult. Did not stay as a result

The area close to the weir itself looked like it had at some earlier time been better maintained with fenced walkways etc leading to and around it. However, as you said, the grass was a metre or more high in those areas and they had all but disappeared under it. Apart from that it was a pretty nice quiet stopover. We didn't have 4wd at the time and the weather forecast predicted rain in the area which is all black soil so we left after only the one night.
