Not a silly question, Steve & Maria - I knew how to turn off the power but I've only recently discovered that our Suburban HWS (gas or 240 v) can be used with both at the same time, if you really wish. This was stated quite clearly in the manual that I downloaded (in an attempt to discover why the gas won't stay alight! ).
Keep asking - we all learn that way!

Mate came all the way from Perth where he picked up his new Jayco Expanda. Followed the instruction book to get the hot water working but no luck, not till he reached Port Macquarie that the Jayco dealer pointed out that there's a power switch under the lounge seat Nothing mentioned in the owners destruction booklet . Obviously didn't listen to the handover takeover brief when he picked it up

There is also a switch on the unit itself when you open the access hatch. Ours is near the bottom LHS part hidden behind some piping on our Discovery . We were shown this on pickup in June by the selling dealer in the predelivery as the way to turn off the mains power supply.

On the 2005 jayco heritage there is a toggle switch in the hot water hatch as jimsiron said, I have always made a point of turning this switch off on return home and I usually drain the tank but last time I forgot to drain tank and this morning I decided to replace the anode prior to our trip starting next week and the pressure in the tank was still very high and the amount of muck that came out of the tank 'and all over me' was unbelievable so suggest when changing anode give tank a very solid flush out.
