Am solo - after 30 years. Will not loose my dream of travelling and camping.
I know this sounds like a stupid question but have seached high and low and can't get to the battery in my '94 Hiace. Guess I am missing finding a hidden clip that isn't shown in the manual.
The battery has gone flat and needs recharching (much like myself ))
Your expert advice would be appreciated

I think you will find a lid behind the drivers seat in that model, it should be under the lid.

I have an older model but should be the same. Slide your drivers seat forward slightly. Turn the handle to loosen the lid, then slide out of the clips at the bottom. Easier to do from inside the living quarters of the van I find.

Hi,
I have a '99 Hiace and the battery is under the pasenger seat. You lift the seat up to access the engine bay, and there is a cover at the rear, under which hides the battery. You need to turn the little lock to lift the cover out. That's if it is the same as your vehicle, of course.
Cheers,
Anton

Ok HW, what have you done with that damsel in distress we were consoling a couple of weeks ago? Where did she go? Come on, 'fess up!! Well, what a turn around! It's so great to hear you writing informed advice to a query by a fellow GN who has a similar vehicle to yours. And that's how this forum works. I'm very proud of you.

Still here CG and Beth. Just don't see any point in being depressed about Myrtle anymore. Que Sera Sera Spelling??? Doris Day number. Whatever the outcome I will have to live with it. Myrtles app with the doctor has now been changed to Wednesday 22nd as had to wait for another payday. I would love to be up north doing what I was supposed to be doing but can't be helped so will work through it somehow.
The battery must have been moved to the other side around the 90's as mine is definitely under the drivers seat. The Air filter is under the passenger seat. The radiator and dipstick is under the middle seat. Which ever way it is ZedJay, I'm sure it won't be hard to find it. If you kneel on the bed/back seat and lift them all you will find the whole thing and I can bet in the near future you will need to know where they all are.

Marj (HW) - so good to hear you so positive and offering advice to others. Keep up the good work, take each day as it comes. I am off to Mackay for a few days on Tuesday, actually Eton on the Peak Downs Highway - apparently my friends have go a camel now - they used to have the biggest black pig in the whole world - loved Blackie (RIP). Can't wait to see how much the kids have grown - havent seen them for two years, looking forward to lots of fun with them.

When we're travelling we have to deal with repairs where we are at the time. Going home to have it done could do more damage. I met a fellow pilot driver at Wudinna a couple of months ago. She'd been yellow ticketed (defected) for disrepair to her 100 Series Landcruiser. Tyres were bald and there was problem with her lights and other issues. She was from Qld but had not been home for 2 months. She told me she wouldn't get home within the 10 days of the ticket limit. Why is it people feel they have to get home to get repairs or maintenance done to their vehicles? Especially if they're on the other side of the country from where their mechanic is. As a seasoned nomad I just find somewhere to get the work done when it has to be done, and move on. If I have to save up a bit, well, then I just park up in the town until my time comes.

I wish I had that advice and taken it CG when I was up there. It hasn't done more damage by coming home, Myrtle is still running very smoothly. Its just I didn't know where to turn to, to get the right answers while up there and couldn't see any other way but to come home. Annoyed with myself now as could have been enjoying the warmth while I waited to get it all sorted and still been up there. It wouldn't have made any difference to the answers in the long run, would it.

Marj - you could have come here - I have a great mechanic, who woul dnever rip you off - trust him completely - and you know you could have stayed with me no worries. But I understand you were pretty stresssed, also needed to get dollars together, but could have done that up here where it is a bit warmer. Oh, well see you on your next trip, eh?

Yes Jules, would have worked well, if I had been thinking clearly. Thanks for the offer anyway.

If Rex, who drives a Hiace Frontline conversion, whom I met in Artamon today reads this - thanks for your time and help.
My search for the battery was confounded by not being able to find the clip at the side of the centre seat, under the velcro, under the carpet.
I asked this gentleman who happened to be heading to his van if he would show me how to get to the battery. He was great, spent time showing me and gave me lots of great tips to boot.

I should point out for anyone that has later Hi Aces that although the hatch is still behind the drivers seat, the battery has been moved to the main engine compartment now accessed the same way as the engine with the lift up passenger seats.
There are a couple of engine items under what was the battery box location before, but to be honest I don't know what they are, they look to be some sort of vacuum pump or something.
