Hi folks, I am a newbie on this site, and really glad that I found it. I am about to take the plunge into the great outdoors, and can't wait. Just need to finalise a few personal and financial details, and due to pick up the van in August..... then lift off :)
It is good to know that there are other solos out there, and from what I have read here, the support and advice will be wonderful.
I am currently based on the Gold Coast, but SOOOO looking forward to getting away from here.
I am male, north of 60 (agewise), but still think I am 14 years old. I am a fishing tragic, and am hoping this site will put me in contact, among other things, with others so afflicted.

It is here at that mate, a real nice helpful bunch. A lot of us have met up and formed friendships that will withstand the test of time as well.
You might even find a fisherman or two on here.

Welcome Bozo,
we have a few things in common, I am getting ready to travel solo round Australia hopefully setting off in August, the campervan is ready for the trip but I haven't saved up enough as a cushion for unexpected expenses.
I also live on the Gold Coast and am the north side of 70 so if you want to meet up send me a PM and we can take it from there.
I have forsaken golf and bought a fishing rod and reel so you would be able to help me there since I have only used it once.

We all had to start somewhere sometime, and we were all newbies once upon a time. Experience comes with practice. You just need the drive and confidence to leave the driveway. You'll be just fine.

Thanks Esmeralda, Beth54, Sheba, Travel Bug, HeadnHome, Escape for your encouragement. This is a great chat site, thanks all for making me welcome,
..........and Cruiser Gran, I too have lived in a couple of other states......... madness mostly, occasional inebriation and sometimes oblivion.
But I got divorced, and feel much better now :)

Escape, I think it is only because of the higher population in the eastern states. There are quite a few on here from Tassie I notice and the rest are quite liberally spread around.

Welcome Bozo. I haven't been doing this long myself but I'm sure that, like me, in a few short weeks you'll be wondering why you didn't start years ago.
Just remember that you no longer have any important meetings to rush off to so you can take your time - travel slowly and enjoy the journey.

Welcome Ian,
I'm in similar circumstances, getting ready to head north from Tassie on my first venture! I'm going to Brisbane for a while (Grandson, who's parents may need a hand moving), so I'll base myself there for a while getting away when I can. I have to be back in Tassie in November, then off again in the new year for an indeterminite time.
I intend free camping quite a bit and it's quite a learning curve with house battery size, solar maybe/generator, maybe, CB radio options & protocols and that first amazing experience of a road train on your back bumper!
While I'll be travelling solo, with all of the good people out there already and active on this site, I certainly won't be alone! Good luck Ian, and thanks everyone, I hope to meet as many as I can on my travels!
Cheers,
Anton

But I got divorced, and feel much better now :) My madness was induced by impulsiveness. I've never regretted a moment. I survived the less than fun times, making me the determined, independent b!tch I am today. Well, more the strong, really nice, happy person I am today, with the occasional b!itchy moment.
