It may have been Point Plommer, between Port and Crescent Head. Cresso has a good C P but it's not in the category of an "el cheapo"

I took particular notice because I was looking for a place to stay for a couple of weeks once I start off on my trip, as a holiday after all the preparations to the van.
I have a booking for the middle of August.

Hi We have been in the area and between port & coffs not many free place pt plommer there is 1 free camp but the old lime stoners road is as rough as guts but is free and another spot is at macksville nice spot but there is a fee or Bellingen show ground is good see our post. Apart from that there is nowwere free as council have signs up and fines apply. Hope this helps. PS these are low bugget spots or free only if you want to pay there is a lot more spots.
