We have decided to go on the road fulltime and are looking at buying a midsize 5th wheeler that can be towed by a jap type 4wheel drive such as a mada bt50 etc. the choice at the moment is between a Hodge or a ultima 5th wheel. Is there anybody out there with this type of combo? Do they live up to your expectations. As it is will be a major purchase we would appreciate any comments. Thanks MM

Hi, MM -
Back in 2008 we flew from Adelaide to Brisbane to see a Southern Cross 5th wheeler at the C & C Show. We were so impressed with their vans - and we'd looked at several other Australian vans - that we ordered our new home while there.
Our 7.7 m (25'6") Expedition may be a little larger than you're looking for, but we've been towing it happily with a Mazda BT-50 Freestyle since November '08, and couldn't be happier with either. And we don't have to crawl up into bed in the front: we have a walk-around bedroom over the wheels (and no wheel arches!), and our lounge-dining area is up front over the hitch.
The Expedition can go almost anywhere in Aus (the owner of Southern Cross has taken his van and BT-50 where we wouldn't dare!) - its four-wheel independent trailing arm suspension combined with air bags makes for a pretty smooth trip. And their after-sales service is excellent, too.
Thanks MM

Have a browse through their web site: http://www.southerncrosscaravans.com.au/Page/5th-wheelers-brisbane .
