Wondering if anyone will be on the road the same time as me. Should get away Thursday all going well. Should make it to Jerilderie the first night. I'm not rushing and want to see anything of interest along the way.
I think my first night will be the worst, not knowing if anyone out there to share my spot. Will be interesting coping with first night of solitude.

Good onya HW. Have a lovely trip. Just missed you. I have a couple of weeks to go yet. Should be going that way in about a months time. Jerilderie should not be a problem. Nice small town. Would happily pull over there.

G'day Marj,
How exciting!!! Yours and Myrtle's maiden voyage
Don't worry, because it's Easter, there will probably be plenty of people to share your spot. Maybe too many. You might end up wishing that they would all go away
Enjoy yourself and stay safe. See you whenever you hit Qld.
Cheers. Pam.

Thanks guys. Don't worry, will be coming in as often as I can, probably a quick 5 minutes to update then cut the power so I don't waste any. I remembered earlier I must go get a new gas bottle tomorrow. Not sure how much is in this one, works on the fridge but its the one that came with Myrtle so best get a full one before I start off. Also have to get a bale of sugar cane mulch to spread around front garden and also a pack of bug bombs to set off as I walk out the door for the last time. Lists, lists, I have them all over the place marking things off as I go.

If you weigh the bottle on a set of bathroom scales it will give you an idea of how full (if you're an optimist) or how empty (if you're a pessimist) it is. The empty (tare) and full weights are stamped on the bottle. If you're not sure ask the wallah where you get the bottle filled to point these out to you.
One "attraction" on the Newell Hwy is the Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo, it's part of Sydney's Taronga Park Zoo. I haven't been there myself (it's on my to-do list) but I believe it's very good. There's a Big4 nearby.
If staying in Narrabri the "Big Sky" caravan park is right in town handy to shops and eateries including the RSL that has a good restaurant, better than the usual "everything with chips" pub/club grub.

Hi Marj,
Re: gas...I found that a lot of country towns won't fill the bottle, will only do swap and go.
I should be back from camping on Tuesday or Wednesday. I won't have laptop with me while away, but will have mobile phone.
Safe travels and enjoy! Cheers!

I was going to do a swap and go with the gas bottle. Makes it easier I think. Can't believe its raining here today, Very grey, so dark could do with the lights on, light rain, wonder if it will get any heavier.

Usually a hardware store will do refills. We found it cheaper to refill rather than swap and go.

Maybe I should pop over to Bunnings or Mitre 10 , see if they do refills. S in L thought it was easier to do a swap.
Not going anywhere till this rain stops and the sun comes out. Don't see any good in travelling without the sun shining.

bunnings no longer do refills here in WA, Barbeque's Galore do refill here for $20 9kg, done ours yesterday

We don't have a BBQ Galore here wombat. My gas bottle is a 4 k I think. Better go out and have another look at it, maybe take my bathroom scales out to weigh it when I do. I saw someone walking into Bunnings the other day with a gas bottle, thought they were getting it swapped, don't know why.

Marj, it's raining here too.
I just checked the weather right through until next Tuesday and Saturday is supposed to be "mostly fine". Every other day...Wet!
Might be worth checking the long range weather for the route you intend to take before you set off. That is...if you haven't already checked.
Cheers. Pam.

Good news, my gas bottle is full. I got my neighbour to show me the best way to check it. He did it with the boiling water, now I know what to do in the future and how it should feel. It is full to just about the rounding bit at the top. One less thing to worry about before I head off. Rain has set in but neighbour said supposed to be fine tomorrow. PS I also did the weighing method, took my bathroom scales out and it weighed 6.5 kg approx. Its a 4 kg bottle so knew it was looking good. The tare on the bottle said 6.5kg

To Blue and I it doesn't matter what the weather is we just make the most of it and drive to conditions and camp accordingly.

Will be travelling the newell next week on our way to Nuriootpa

Where is Nuriootpa John-Pam. Looked in all my maps couldn't find it. Raining heavily here, so busy going through my belongings packing the last of what I will need. Done a check of weather from this end, only 16 degrees here today. Tomorrow looks good, getting up to 21 deg with only a 30 % chance of rain, then it drops back for the next few days over easter. So at this stage tomorrow, Thursday will be it. This rain reminded me I could do with taking a raincoat, never needed one up there before but have never been up there this early in the year either. I usually go August to November approx.

Boil the jug and pour over the gas bottle. The empty bit will be really hot under your hand when you touch it, the full bit will be quite cold. There is really a surprising difference.
