Just went into bank account to see how much left so I could do a bit of grocery shopping only to find Aami had taken out a sum for insurance for my last vehicle.
The insurance was cancelled when they couldn't insure the campervan so I couldn't transfer.
The lady said it would be cancelled and a refund cheque would be in the mail. Well still waitng for cheque and now find another payment taken out. Have rung them and they are trying to sort it out. They now owe me for 2 monthly payments and a bit from the previous 3rd.
Oh well, no pay this week, Myrtle taken anything I had, maybe can afford a $2 2 litre of milk from one of the supermarkets., as I am nearly out. But not much more till they sort this out. They are so slow on refunds, could be waiting a long time.

Its all been cancelled now but they can't reverse the payment so have to wait for a cheque in the mail, about 10 days. They apologised but they should have done it properly inthe first place.
Daughter said, Yes they can, if they can take it out they can also put it back. But no they say they can't.

DeBe, I only do it with vehicle insurance so I can pay monthly. A big bill once a year is hard to pay on a pension.

I once had an arguement with a finance company who we had paid out and they kept taking monthly payments for 3 months. After lots of phone calls each month, one day I was doing a job for a local lawyer when they returned a call, after about 15 minutes of crap I explained that I was currently in a meeting with my lawyer discussing their non compliance and how they had fraudantly removed funds from my account, explained on completion of my discussion with them my lawyer would be filing charges of fraud with the local detectives and pursueing them as well as suing them for moneys lost and all expenses includeing lost income. The whole time the lawyer was sitting beside laughing and encouraging me and sugested I had done a great job. Any way that was about 10 in the morning and money was all back in my back by close of business the next day.. So point out to them they have committed fraud cheers blaze

I've had trouble in the past . Much the same situation as HW ,
It took 8 months to get the $182 back . ( Hope you don't have to wait that long HW ) .
Now we never ever let any mob do a direct debit , even though it is sometimes inconvenient . And , the biggr the company , the worse they seem to be to deal with in these situations .

Happy Wanderer, We also are on a dissabillity pension & do understand its not easy. But you are right if they can take it out they can put it back. What they & banks do is use a slow payment system so they can get the max use of your money untill its cleared. We loose they win.

Phil - Your insurance contract is an annual one, the fact that you pay monthly is irrelevant. If you had paid the premium up front, as many people do, you wouldn't have expected to get a refund of 5 months premium when you made your claim, so why should you expect to get out of paying the last 5 months worth of premium? The insurance company has already paid out the full risk, they are entitled to the full premium.

We wrote a driving school car off insured with AAMI.
After the accident they arrabged the towing, inspected it the next day, rang to say it was a right off, had the money paid to us within two days.
Very, very impressive.
Now have all our cars, caravan insured with AAMI.
However, they will not insure our unit because it has a "shared" driveway? Gp figure?

Try canceling your internet account after the contact period expires it can take months and many calls and emails to get them to cancel and just as long to reverse the payments one at a time . Let alone if you owe them the service is canceled within days

I know I'm going off topic slightly, but...
When our Dad died, my sister got onto AAPT right away to cut off the phone in his room at the Nursing home. They were good on the phone. There'd be a closing account up to that date. But we kept getting bills! My sister rang them numerous times. In the end, we asked Dad's solicitor who was doing his will. She said there was no way we had to pay more. She very kindly, without charge, sent them a letter. The bills still kept coming! In the end, she said, just ignore them, shred them. (which, of course is illegal)
I believe my sister was still getting them before they moved to Cooloola Cove in December '10...3 years after Dad died!
Hence, I would never recommend AAPT to anyone!

I have several automatic payments I arranged through my bank paypal. I decide when the payment is made automatically or monthly recurring. If you authorise the payee they seem to just keep helping themselves. I've had this problem with credit card payments. Once they have the account number they keep helping themselves without sending a renewal notice, or any other advice. The only way I've found it is when I get the statement. It's actually illegal to help themselves to anyone's money without authority. It's fraud. American organisations seem to do this, and it is a worry. Keep on them until the cash is in your hand. If you do internet banking, you arrange your finances from your end for any recurring or regular set payments, eg internet account.

I use Bpay through my bank for a few things, but I also have direct debit for car insurance which is monthly, and toll top-ups. I know it's a bit risky, but so far so good.
I get annoyed that so many businesses want to be paid by credit card. I don't have a credit card, can't get one, even if I wanted to. And yes, I know about Visa Debit, but on discussing with my bank, we decided it wasn't worth it for me.

Thats definitely wrong Chichi. They only have to zap your card again and refund the amount. Last week I bought mirrors at supercheap for the van, then decided on Sunday they didn't look right and would leave the old ones on. Took them back, they immediately refunded on card, no problems. Came home, checked online in my bank account within half an hour. The money was back in. I had a problem with aapt years ago when they started charging me for my telephone account even though I wasn't with them. Took months to sort it out, and get monthly accounts stopped.

Ci Chi is correct with the refund proceedure for most big organisations and government departments as they have a security code imbedded in their eftpos system.
To stop illegal refunds (Stealing) No refunds are possible without entering the security code or using the 'Special' Traders Account Card which contains the code. The average employee with most companies would not have access to the card or code, only the company owner/ supervisor etc and in the case of some organisations such as government deptments, no cash or card refunds are permitted.
Cheers, ozjohn.

Retailers can do it easily enough Marj, but it is open for theft. I worked on the refund counter of a major retailer..which better remain nameless..2 staff members, who also worked the counter, had a system going and stole hundreds of $$$.
