Goodmorning everyone reading the difference in the cost of registrations in the states would be a good idea if rego was the same throughout Australia also the same goes for road rules would certainly make it much easier all round. Helena.

You would think so Helena . I suppose each state wants to retain their autonomy , but not at the expense of other states . I posted this ages back - a truckie mate mate had his log book stamped in Qld & NSW , was legal . Got booked in Vic , because he was out of hours Going into Vic . BUT when he went through th checking station @ Marulen , they could find nothing wrong with his times or entries . It is a National log book . It seems funny though about log books - I have Never carted logs , when I was driving & rta pull me up & ask for log book I would act dumb & say I am not carrying logs , got away with it once . Richo

Goodmorning Helena, I think all of Australia agree's with you however our politicians have never been about the greater good have they!(only their own) In the main they are lawyers but justice and fairness let alone commonsense dont figure in their decisions.

No! No!No! If rego was made the same in all states then pounds to peanuts it would be made the same as NSW or QLD as they wouldn't lower their fees in line with Vic. As for road rules, what's the difference between states? Ozjohn.
PS: Just paid mine for less tan $40.

You are probably right Ozjohn, no state would decrease fees... you might all end up paying the high fees charged in the ACT!.
But its more than Rego charges, what about the poor kids at school who have to move interstate and deal with a whole new system and curriculum every time? My kids (Army brats), attended 10 schools in 4 states between them, and found they were ahead in one state in a particular subject and behind in another. Then moving to the next state it would all have to be caught up again.
Surely a country of 22million (give or take a few) doesnt need 7 different education systems.

Just for a moment just ponder how well of we really are ..
From time to time some sections of our society suggest that we should remove the States & just have two levels of Govt .. The Feds & Local Regional Councils.
Can you immagine the situation with this State TAX reverting to the Local Regional Councils? .. Every tin pot Local Council making its own decision on how high to raise the charges. What a mess!

I guess you are right in the fact that we would have to go with the highest reg etc can't seem to win there can we. Agree about the schools though it is very definitely hard on the kids. Helena.

Uniform road rules is a nice pipe dream and we can only hope . In NSW they are more interested in policing speeding so the other road rules just don't get policed unless there is a major accident and the case is clear cut . Most drives seem to think if you break the rules often enough they just don't apply anymore . It's reached a stage here that unless shots are fired it's hard to get a police response to anything.
