Norma, if its an ebay auction do not pay money before you actually are there in person to pick it up. That is a rule with ebay and vehicles. Not sure about any other sites though. There is just too much risk involved.

Gotta agree with Marj and Firefly here Norma. Be very careful. I never use E-bay, as I've heard of too many people being ripped off, and in your case, I don't imagine the figure involved will be a paltry amount that you can afford to lose.
Cheers, Sheba.

I've been using ebay for years to buy and sell, never had a problem. A lot of it has bveen bank deposit before paypal bacame so popular. Now I use paypal as so much easier.
I used to frequent their forum as well. Some awful stories of people buying vehicles, paying by paypal, then going to pick the vehicle up only to find there was no vehicle. And the seller had disappeared with their money.
If you read all the rules of ebay they will say never pay for a vehicle in advance either with bank deposit or paypal, they don't cover you in the event of something going wrong. They always advice you to take the money with you after the end of auction. Get the vehcle checked over and when you have decided all ok, then hand the money over and take the vehicle.
Another thing is never pay by Western Union as it will be a scam for sure. Someone from overseas usually trying to rip you off.

Good advice there Marj. My eldest son is a regular buyer and seller on ebay. When he was looking for a new/old camper he found one 'in Perth'. Something didn't jel with the wording of the ad. He asked a few questions and became more suspicous. Just when he was ready to let the police in on it, the ad dissappeared.
And recently someone used my daughters credit card details for a $600 purchase on ebay. She doesn't know how they got her credit card details, but luckily she very quickly realized the theft and contacted ebay and her bank and cancelled the card.
I bought my Gypsy off ebay, but luckily she was on the other side of Brisbane. I took my brother with me to inspect, and paid cash in the hand when my brother gave the thumbs-up.
Oh, and congrats on your find! Happy travels!

We bought our Hawke off ebay and the couple selling it ended up living only 30 minutes away. They insisted we check it out first, which we did and left a deposit with them, picking it up a couple of days later.
They didn't even ask for it to be paid before delivery so I guess they knew those rules too. I certainly didn't.
I have seen one van scam through a local paper. The van was just too good to be true. In the end, I notified ebay and the police.
The scammer said he was an ebay seller and as such had an ebay account we could deposit the money into.
Ebay don't do this they told me.
I am sure your new machine will be worry free TB, have a blast mate.
We sorta hijacked your thread a bit there.

Ebay can be good and bad, mostly good. I have bought lots of stuff from ebay and had very few problems, usually with people who change their mind after they have bought something from you. Remember- this is an auction, and there is normally no comeback. Paypal is very slow and charge like bulls, but is very safe and even guarenteed.Just remember to let the buyer beware-keep your wits about you.It it is too good to be true, it usually is
