I was on the phone to my brother in Western Vic last night.  We live in South East QLD. He said that there was a lot of talk amongst his caravanning friends of avoiding Queensland for up to the next two years because of the recent string of floods and cyclones.  He said that a lot of them, probably including himself would head for Western Aust for the winter.  My reply was that it was that it was unwise to write off a holiday in QLD.  Flooding and Cyclones are not exactly unknown here, indeed the cyclone season is not yet ended.  Has anyone else heard this sort of scare mongering?

Doesn't scare me, I think sometimes the publicity gets out of control and people forget that its prity much the norm for tropics to be hot wet and steamy for the 1st few months of the year, it goes with the territory :) I'm leaving Sunday and can't wait to get a bit of warm weather, and hopefully the rain will soon be over

Saw Anna Bligh on TV couple of weeks ago talking about it. She said they need everyone to come to get the economy boosted again, so don't stay away. I will be there from sometime in April to sometime in August doing my bit for the economy.

We got back from the Sunshine Coast on Tuesday, I know it wasn't as badly affected as other places and  was crawling with caravans and motorhomes. Had a BBQ with Just Cruising and caught up with my old mate who was getting his motorhome ready to go out again.

Oh dear not coming to Qld worried about a bit of rain! Don't let that put you off it's a wonderful warm place in winter.
Actually I am being selfish as us Cairns-ites are heading off to WA in a few weeks and we don't want to be squeezed in like sardines whereever we go 
Come to Qld beautiful 1 day, perfect the next! And our towns have really taken a hit and do need you.

OK guys, arrived home this afternoon (SE Qld) from being up north for the past 7 weeks. Must admit that being in Townsville when we got the wrong side of Cyclone Yasi was not quite my cup of tea, however after that had nothing but rain, and our trip home - leaving Tsv last Saturday has been nothing short of yuk!!! rain and more rain - damn near needed floaties on the van just north of Bundaberg....... BUT, the wet season does not last forever!!!!! Queensland NEEDS all the tourists it can get to give it a boost - come to Queensland and enjoy it. We will be heading back to Tsv in about 6 weeks for the Naming Ceremony of our new grandson on 3 March - will be a quick trip as we will then head to Canberra for the birth of another grandchild in May. But, please, please come to Queensland, it really is a lovely place to visit. Pete & June

Oh No if too many people come to WA I may see the water as Australia will start to tilt and the flood will go this way.

But nice to see you anyway if you travel through Kalgoorlie or Coolgardie call in to Credo Homestead & Campground always like to see new campers and visitors , been quiet latley.

We are coming up to the Northern Island and in particular Queensland for 4 months this year. Leave here in June, head for SA for 1 week and then look out Queensland, here we come. Dusty

Sure, that beauty might be a bit damaged, there may be potholes to dodge, there may still be a bit of rain here and there, but certainly won't be that cyclonic weather we've had for the past few months. 

The dry season in the north is just awesome!

we live in townsville and everything is great here.between here and cairns is a mess worst luck,but the residents are doing their best under such terrible circumstances.a lot of roads flooded out west but hope they will be open soon.don't beleive all you see on tv or read in the papers.
we will be travelling to wa in july for 3 months.definitely not changing any of our plans.

The more who go to Qld this winter, the more space theres going to be in WA! I'm starting to wonder if that huge state is going to be full!

Instead of behaving like spoiled brats who want everything nicey nice in Qld, go north for experience. Not every town in Qld is damaged by floods and cyclones. Have a look around to get a glimpse of what they're living with. See how they cope and manage day to day transport and travel over storm and flood damaged roads. See what a cyclone like that monster Yasi does to the countryside. Not just the banana palms, but the rainforest. You'll see views now through the defoliated forest you would not normally see. You'll see how the birds and other wildlife manage and rebuild. Do the trip to appreciate the good times, and to show respect to the locals in tough times. Look on it as a new experience. No matter how many times you've done it before, you will see it now as it may never be again, at least not on this scale, we hope. I know what Rosita did to Broome in 2000. Because of the sparse population nothing much was said about that Category 5 cyclone. The area of the cyclone was much smaller and condensed than Yasi. It wrecked an eco-tourism community to the south, it stripped the trees of all foliage, and felled thousands of trees, just in town alone. Cable Beach was 30 metres wider than it was at high tide. Driving south the trees were leaning in the direction of the wind as it swirled over the land, for mile. The highway folloed "cyclonic lean" for about 100 kms - 50 kms lean to the east, and 50 kms leaning to the west. A very odd experience. Go north. Have a look. Have the experience, and who knows, there may still be jobs you can do up there to physically as well as fiscally assist.

Yep, there were quite a lot of pot holes and road works - poor blokes, trying to fix the roads in , yet more, pouring rain, but hey..... what's a little inconvenience, a little dampness (now that tested the relationship a tad!) and packing up in the wet. As one lady at a very soggy caravan park said to us - we have to be very very thankful we are not in Japan!! Now that gives us all something to think about, doesn't it?

They are indeed Glassies, great company and fair dinkum nice people. 

Dont forget, theres been floods in NSW, Victoria, NT and parts of WA too. When they are back in business they all deserve our support.

How very true Gerty, now that Pete has retired we shall certainly be visiting each state as we go - our plans (?) for the rest of this year incl. more of Qld, NSW, Vic & Tassie - think that might do it, have to leave some for the years ahead!!
