Could someone please advise me on the duration of keeping water fresh in tanks. Currently travelling so only using filtered water over sink, otherwise hooked up to caravan park water. Water has been there five months to date. Is it advisable to drain and only fill when going "free camping"?

Stored rainwater in tanks may be there 12 months without a freshen up, I dont bother hooking the van upto the mains at a CP, I just keep filling the water tanks and not quite so sparing with it
cheers

Water does not "go off".
Bugs can grow in it though and we add 4ml of swimming pool chlorine per 100 litres to our tanks every couple of weeks or whenever we top them up while on the road or before starting on a trip. That kills them all.
We then filter our drinking water wit a 0.5um active carbon filter as we use it. That takes most things out, including the chlorine.
Cheers,
Peter

We rinse ours before taking off, fill it and put in some bicarb soda, does the job nicely. Too many bugs grow in water that sits for too long.

Rainwater storage tanks may be 12 months without a cool, does not bother me hitch up the van of the network in a PC, just keep filling the water tanks and not so short on it. We also filter our drinking water with activated carbon filter 0.5um as we use it. That takes most things, including chlorine.
